A Special Place in Hell Vol. 3 – Carjacking an 85-year-old on the way to Church

From the Brookland Listserv:

On Friday morning at 7:45 two young guys parked on the 1900 block of Shepherd Street [NE] in a car described as “orange/gold.” My lovely 85-year-old neighbor was scraping the frost of the windshield of her car, getting ready to pick up her passengers and go to early church as she does every weekday. One of the guys got out of the car and headed toward her, reached into her car and took her purse. As she was distracted by him and trying to get her purse back, the guy knocked her down and got back into the gold car while the other guy jumped into her car and drove off.

My understanding is that the police woman who responded to the call knows of the gold car and of this crew of young guys–identified as late teens.

Please be on the lookout for an orange/gold car with young guys in it. Many things are disturbing about this incident, not the least of which is that it happened so early in the morning.

  • This is horrible! I don’t even know what to say!

  • LisaT

Hell is too good for them.

  • I’m assuming the victim was black. If that’s the case, this is a good example of how the “soft on crime” mentality harms the African-American residents even more that it does the white residents. Most of the really violent and awful crime (shootings and murders) seem to be black-on-black.

Everyone should want to come down hard on these scumbags. Who is asking for leniency and why?

  • Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

  • Of course they went after an 85 y/o woman. Because they are amateurs and an 85 y/o woman is an easy target. It is certainly pathetic. I had a colleague, 85 y/o woman that was a victim of pick pocketing. Women of that age move slowly, and can’t fight back. It’s sad.

    Castration seems a reasonable response.

  • How awful! You may as well put on a t-shirt that says “prey” instead of “pray”.

  • disturbing, yes. surprising, no.

  • I hope the scumbags run up a telephone pole.

    • In the old lady’s car?? Just what she needs, car repair or replacement costs.

Let’s hope they get caught, get thrown in jail, and she gets her car back PLUS victim’s restitution.

  • I only hope that, if these two are caught, they’ll be handled with kid gloves. The real tragedy here would be if their lives were ruined for a mere youthful indiscretion–there’s always a first time to make a poor decision.

Thanks to our super-understanding judges, discrete prosecutors, and forward-thinking Council members, if these poor children are unfortunate enough to be caught, I’m sure they will be safely home in their parent’s care a few hours after the (traumatic) arrest.

  • Perhaps the punks are related to the ones who stole my mother’s purse out of her car while getting gas. The woman grew up in a small southern town and as often as we’ve warned her that you can’t trust people here, she still turned her back and the little punks got away with her babysitting money from that week. Special places need to be reserved in hell – my mom is a 65 year old in remission from cancer who is living in our apt. because she could no longer afford her own home. Stupid punks.
