You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every morning at 10am.

  • RANT: Smashing Pumpkins tickets were sold out 3 seconds after 10:00am. How is this possible?

    • I know! Breaks my heart! Who knew there were that many people who still love Smashing Pumpkins after so many years? Craigslist will be my friend until I can find some tickets to go.

    • If it’s any consolation, Billy Corgan couldn’t sing well live to save his life.

      Sad but true.

  • Rant: Oh god, the humidity. I’d say being outside is like being in someone’s mouth, but that would be flattering to mouths round the world.

Revel: My new shoes fit nicely and it’s almost Labor Day weekend!

  • IT’S FRIDAY!!!!

  • Rave: Have a job interview for a position that would be perfect for me set up for next week!

Rant: Not to put the cart before the horse, but if the position works out everyone at my current job would brand me a trader and think I am out to get them.

Rave: Scored $5 Nats tickets for the labor day weekend and they are awesome seats!

  • Rave: Great Thursday night/great Friday morning. And it’s the weekend!

    Rave/Rant: Late for work.

Rant: Music man has yet to email me back.

Rant/Observation: Thinking I’d be happier being a bartender. The only benefits at my current company are health insurance and it’s a bad policy anyways. There are no opportunities for bonuses, 401K, or dental insurance.

  • Rant: My best friend called crying to tell me that her husband asked her for a divorce. Yuck.

Rave: It’s Friday, and tomorrow is a friend’s birthday celebration!

  • Rant: I need some musically inclined folks to jam with. I am a singer who can play percussion with attitude and moxie. I just cant seem to find anyone who isnt a suit with an agenda and an oversized ego in this damn city. #getmetosanfrancisco

  • Rave: Went to the MoCo Fair last night with my wife and had a blast. It’s kind of nice in the days of blackberry and 24-7 media to go somewhere with carny’s, carnival rides, carnival games, arts and crafts and most importantly, barn animals.

It’s like two different worlds, but I’m glad that one still exists. I haven’t pet a pig or a goat in a decade.

Rave: I’ve been trying to motivate myself to start a food blog for a couple years, and I finally got off my ass, put it together, and got some posts up! Now it’s ready to be seen (click my name to be directed there if you’re interested).
Rant: Need a nice camera and better lighting so that my food photos can come even close to what’s out there.

    • Congrats! I’m definitely trying those nutella banana muffins. Nutella….mmmmmm.

Looks good! We seem to have similar taste in food. Unfortunately I’ve never been successful at maintaining a food blog.

You’re off to a great start with the photography. Strobist has a tutorial for building a $10 lightbox, which comes in handy for food shots. I’d also do a little post-production; a few minor tweaks to exposure, contrast, and white balance can make a huge impact. Picasa by Google is free and will do all of that.

    • Nice! I am going to try that vanilla extract recipe. So easy, vanilla extract is expensive, and I will have a bottle of bourbon around. Win, win and win.

    • Great blog! The strawberry vinegar reduction looks yummy.

Rave/Rant: not much going on today.

Rave: Star Hollow Farm stand tomorrow! I’ll be the one buying all the tomatoes.

  • Rant?: My boyfriend leaving town this weekend and it’ll be by first time in the city alone

Anyone have any suggestions for things I can do solo?

    • being alone is great!!! grab a cappuccino and movie in georgetown before the masses descend. catch up with old friends. go visit one of the numerous farmers markets in dc and whip something up from scratch. call your out of town family/friends. take a long walk to a new neighborhood and try a restaurant. go to a museum. catch a movie at the air & space. be a tourist! or you can always clean your place from top to bottom.

    • My wife locked herself in the room with a box of cereal and the dog. Might I suggest calling some friends or making some.

Otherwise, the museums are your best bet.

    • Why not do the same things you normally do? It almost sounds like you’re viewing this a big deal but it needn’t be.

Or go completely in the other direction: maybe try being a tourist for a day – pretend you *don’t* live here and you are just visiting for one day. Museums, Segway tour, Boat ride on the Potomac, window shopping in Georgetown (or wherever), etc.

    • Hang out at a coffeeshop with a good book (or anywhere with a good book – perfect solo activity). Do things your boyfriend would’t enjoy doing…

  • Rant: Finished up our project in Dallas way early, our group headed to the airport early, and the other three heading back to BWI got on earlier flights at 2:15 CST. However heading back to DCA, the earliest flight they can get me on is 5:00pm. I am currently sitting in the airport in Dallas, with four hours more to go!

Rave: Heading home to see the wife and puppy!

2nd Rave: Bought the wife tickets to ZBB at JLL for our anniversary. Awesome tickets, using a presale passwork.

2nd Rant: The concert is at JLL.

  • Rave: West Memphis Three. it’s about damn time.

  • Rant/Rave: I’m currently in a love/hate relationship with Fridays. On one hand woo! weekend. On the other hand, no new jobs are posted to apply for over the weekend nor will anyone call to offer me an interview or a job for 2 days.

  • rave: yay weekend!
rant: busy weekend with lots of work to do. i love sundays but lately, i feel so lonely on sundays.

  • yup… there tend to be a lot of suits around who talk out of their ass… good luck with Idaho, maybe y’all can rock it out

  • Rave: I’m adopting a dog tomorrow from WARL!
Double Rave: I can’t wait to start sending PoP my animal pictures.
Rant: How can I possibly have a rant today?
