Back in May ’11 we learned that Sandella’s had been evicted from 1911 Eye St, NW. I was excited to see a coming soon sign on the space for BONMi – Banh Mi sandwiches. Their Web site says they’ll be opening in September.
Sweet.

Sweet.

Charmin’ sandwich concept. I love bonmis and it’s just 4 blocks from work.
September? Not likely. Knowing the permit process in this city, with the projected opening date of District of Pi getting continually pushed back, and wasn’t Pho 14 supposed to have expanded in November?
So is it pronounced “banh mi” or “bone me?” Because if it’s the latter, then it’s a premium fast-casual concept whose time has “come.”
damn. i was hoping to be the first to make a sex reference.
at any rate, i like the logo. i’ve always enjoyed bonmi in between some buns.
I think someone should open an AC/DC themed Vietnamese sandwich joint called “Bon Scott Mi.”
missed opportunity: Bahn Mi Up Scotty.
Kind of like how Saki in Adams Morgan has the long vowel bar over the A… So it’s “Say-Kee”?
it sounds like BAN me, not BONE me.
Is that a reflection of PoP in that last photo?
PoP – for your birthday or maybe just another random day you should include an album called “Reflections: PoP Caught in Camera Action” and have a bunch of these pics in there.
The best thing about BahnMi is that they are awesome and like $3 (I’m using Falls Church, Houston, LA pricing). Which means they will probably be about $9-$12 in DC (using the VA -> DC price index for pho as an example).
Compare Eden Center rents to K street rents and get back to me.
you’re so smart. i bet he hadnt thought of that
Phonomenon gets $7 for theirs.
Yup. And while not very good (chewy, underseasoned meat, not enough veggies), they’re easily 2x the size of an eden center $3 model.
Banh mi sandwiches are $3.99 at Pho 14!
They are good there, and cheap! I love the meal they offer – appetizer and banh mi for like $8.
There was a great Banh Mi truck in Arlington a couple years ago, but at one point it just vanished and I haven’t seen it again.
If you can’t figure out how to spell or pronounce it, it probably doesn’t bode well for how you will make it.
Yeah, that’s the reason why nobody ever buys Krazy Glue.
