Um, let me just say it straight out. This is my new favorite house in Columbia Heights and possibly in all DC. Holy crow. A friend of mine sent me this last night and I couldn’t wait to share with you guys. What’s your favorite part? It’s yours for $1,599,000.

you might need some help

You think that New Orleans doesn't have a sizeable homeless population? I suggest you do...
Idiots? Is that what the kids call sensible people these days?

omg. i’m going into debt to buy it. i dont care.
beautiful. Only complaint is the lack of a large living room. But everything in there (except maybe that piano room) is pretty gorgeous.
Wow… just wow…
it seems like a fair deal to me. if you’ve got the money and the desire, it is very nice.
$320/SF isn’t bad at all for that area either, is it?
love love love
Can anyone spot me $1.5 million?
This is the best deal on any property I’ve ever seen in DC. In Georgetown this goes for…what, $8M? You’d spend half that for new 1-floor condo nearby.
Even 10 blocks south or west probably triples the price
Wow! Do they have layaway?
the mothership has landed!
gaaaaaaaaaaaawd daaaaaaaaaamn that place is amazing.
christ almighty! a sauna! and such an awesome view while taking a dump!
I think the owner of the $1.28M house in Shaw that was posted Friday just shat his pants.
This will get bid up. Priced to sell. Escalation clauses are back!
No house in Columbia Heights is worth $1.5mil.
Alright now, after looking at the tour, I take it back. I still wouldn’t personally want to live in the hipster ghetto, but this house is a real bargain!!! It’s probably already sold.
I don’t want to quibble but we are (thankfully) rapidly getting rid of the hipsters.
Unfortunately the WASPY jerks are here to stay.
Hipsters are welcome to find refuge in Petworth. We could use them.
What exactly would hipsters be useful for in Petworth?
Unfortunately, you’re right. The idiot fratboy-types are beginning to settle inside the District, a sure sign that gentrification has nearly completed its cycle. The sure sign it has been completed is when the white trash and rednecks start to settle down here.
hell, i’m white trash and rednecky and i’ve already been here over a decade!
A great deal. I love that house, and I had no idea how nice it was inside. Beautiful. Anyone want to buy a two story row house a block away — lets say $800K….
OMG and hot damn! I am licking the screen. My only complaint is that I wish there was some way to hide the a/c ducts. They take away from an almost perfect house but that’s not stopping me from going back to look at the tour for the eleventh time. Damn!
I had the same reaction. Those soffits are aweful. But otherwise, a beautiful house at a reasonable price.
I’ll take it. The decorator or stager did his/her job. This is just beautiful!
I’m wondering how it would look with a real person’s furniture– those bedrooms don’t look all that large. Staging and good photography really go a long way toward making a house look amazing.
I really wish I had $1.6 mil laying around. This place is amazing and worth every dollar. It should have no problem selling. The best we’ve seen on GDoN. I am going to watch the slide show again.
Not my style, isnide, but the house iteslfe, the yard is really great. I think it will sell for 2.2 million. Mark my words.
sorry folks, my keyboard is messed up
This does seem like an amazing deal compared to other house porn or other GDoN posts. Love the woodwork, the period touches, and the shape of the master BR. Does the vintage sewing machine convey? My only quibble is the pedestal sinks (and the vessel sink in the half-bath), but that’s a matter of personal taste.
Also, to all of the other realtors out there: this is what terrific photography and staging look like (though I might have waited for a sunny day for the outdoor photos)!
Let us know how much this ends up going for, PoP!
Wow, I guess I’ll have to be the first to dissent from the crowd, but while this house is nice I think it will sell for $200-300k less. This price point is just too high for Col Heights when at $1.6M you can actually can get a lot for your money in Dupont or Logan.
You dont know what you are talking about. This place is a DEAL. It will absolutely go for this price.
I agree with you. Not saying it is not worth that but it is asking a lot to drop 1.6 million in a neighborhood that usually doesn’t sniff a million. I am thinking it is on the market for a while and sells for 1.299.
well, i dont know what i’m talking about with price, so i can’t disagree. i just think the place looks cool as shit.
I love it. I’d buy it if I could.
Good. Frigging. Deal.
I am trying not to think that it was only 6x the price of my NE fixer upper… and about 100x nicer than it will ever be, and 4x as large. Pounce, richies!
wow, thanks for posting. this is my block (and no I don’t live in a million dollar house). Fairmont is great but how in the heck do realtors figure out the comps? One the other end of the block is a section 8 building. I live in a condo where units can’t even sell priced at 300,000 (big units). The house next to our building was priced a little over 1 mil for a while but never sold so its a rental now. really curious what happens to this house. Its beautiful and hopefully it will sell quickly!
I went to a party here a few years ago and the house was amazing then (before all the renovations). The view from the roof is amazing and if I remember right there are multiple decks including a rooftop.
Great house. Fantastic kitchen!! Although I think this is an example of “the best house in the neighborhood” kind of deal. Maybe some rich hipster with a trust fund will buy it.
I don’t want to continue on with the high school cafeteria style stereotyping… but I’m thinking cool and successful gay couple for this house.
Yep.
Too bad my gf doesn’t like Columbia Heights and it’s twice as much as we can afford. Maybe in 10 years we can upgrade.
TV. IN. THE REFRIGERATOR.
You are not allowed to sell a house that has a tv in the refrigerator for less than 1.5 million. That’s an official real estate rule.
I would take this over almost any other house porn we’ve seen, in a hot second.
The vaulted ceiling in the master bedroom? Gorgeous. And that kitchen… THAT’S what all those other cherry/granite/stainless kitchens WANT to be. Though one little quibble– I’d've put pocket doors between the dining room and kitchen. Too much openness for that level of formality.
I bet it is SOOOOOO haunted
*Sigh* I wish I had 1.6 million dollars
OMG if I went to the open house… I’d probably never leave. Just prop myself in a closet and come out when the owners left for the day. I’d need to prop two xanax just to visit this house so I wouldn’t have a meltdown. One day sweet jesus… one day!
Coveting is one of the deadly sins right.
Damn….
ha!
I also live on this block and have always been curious about this house. All summer long they taunted passersby with their BBQ, perfectly landscaped corner lot and peaceful, trickling water fountain. I hated them and their grill then. I hate them more now.
WANT WANT WANT
I have serious house envy this afternoon!
Been in this house way back, say eight years ago. It looks much bigger from the outside than inside. It is WAY NARROW, not a square room in the house. Most of the walking you will do is UP and DOWN its stairs. No backyard, all yard is in front with no place to put lawn furniture. Its really not worth what they are asking.
Those are all the ideas I was thinking.
My guess: someone will buy it for less than asking.
its listed at 1000 sq feet per floor.
that is not small for dc housing.

Awesome. Woodwork is stunning. I noticed the striking weather vane a few months ago and I knew something nice had to be inside. Great to see a first rate, high end, renovated home on PoP and in Columbia Heights. Hope they’re rewarded for their investment in the north.
Isn’t this Brandon Green’s place? He throws a helluva good Christmas party.
How much to just take a bath there? Can’t wait to meet the new neighbors!
Beautiful house and a great location (my girlfriend lives a few doors down). Also, never have to worry about getting broken into since a police car is always parked at that corner to catch people blowing through the stop sign heading up/down 13th (though you do have to hear a single blast of the siren when they catch someone).
gorgeous style and woodwork, and I love the vaulted ceiling bedroom. Thank you to the owners/renovators for loving the house, and really working with it, instead of cutting it into condos and sanitizing it with out-of-the-box cabinets.
To the new owners, may it be filled with happy times with lots of elegant dinner parties, and not filled with echoes. That’s one big (okay, potentially narrow) multi-roomed house.
Not that I don’t love the house, but exactly who is the market for this house? My first thought would be a well off family with kids, but that location is sort of weird for that. Plus the finishes are probably nicer (and thus more expensive) then most families would want.
My second thought is a rich person who likes to entertain. The thing is for big as the house is, I don’t see many real entertaining space. The living room is not big, there is lots of outdoor space, but it is sort of divided as are all of the decks. Plus I am not sure how many of those people will live at 13th and fairmont.
Not to say it won’t sell, and won’t sell for around the price, but I think it is priced right.
Kev nailed it above– rich gay couple.
Thank you so much for all your positive comments about our house, we have worked so hard for many years to restore this gem and we are so proud of it….. I’ve had the time of my life decorating this place, is just magical.
Christian,

I want to go to there.

I think it will go for close to asking. Agree that gay couple is most likely target to buy this house.
My only quibbles are that a house like this should have had a built-in fridge and the bathrooms (apart from the master) are rather pedestrian and not very luxurious. Claw foot tubs add character but are staged without the rather ugly shower curtain rod that would be necessary. Give me a steam shower instead.
