Capturing Sweet Summer Scenes

I particularly liked this shot from the newly refurbished park at 14th and Girard, possibly to be renamed Obama park, because it was a mix of residents playing ball together.

  • My husband and I caught this same scene on Sunday while having coffee at the Dunkin’ Donuts on 14th St. Very cool. By the way — service at the Dunkin’ Donuts sucks

  • this is so nice to see.

  • dont’ mean to sour things, but i’m used to seeing this park being “used” by intoxicated dirty old men or screaming junkies so i’m glad to see this park being used by actual kids!

  • Great photo. Glad to see the park is finally being used as a way to bring all people in the neighborhood together. I live just around the corner from this place and may actually go buy a basketball at target now. Also happy to see that the park has been getting locked up at night every day so that really cuts down on late night loitering etc. I think this time DC parks finally got it right!

  • By “mix of residents” do you mean not just black people? It’s sad that this has to be pointed out and just isn’t a norm.

  • Is that a ginger playing basketball?

  • That’s so nice to see that white people finally have a place to hang out in Columbia Heights.

  • you mean besides target, starbucks, wonderland, red rocks, pete’s, sticky fingers, etc., etc., etc., etc.
