Has Cooper Hardware Closed For Good?

A reader sent me word that they thought Cooper Hardware on 14th and Oak may have closed its doors. I went by on Friday and over the weekend and it was closed every time. Anyone know what’s up? Have they closed temporarily or for good?

damn I hope not..I didnt even know they remodled the store front.

  • I have tried to go 3 times in the past 3 weeks and it is always closed. I will be bummed if it is true.

  • A mom and pop store closed around Christmas & new years doesn’t shock me.

  • it’s been closed for months

But the question is – are they closed temporarily or for good?

  • Hope they are just fixing it up and will open soon again better than ever.. here’s to hoping (the interior could use some updates, especially now in contrast to the new sign).

  • The owner was sick awhile back and they were letting people know that they’d be reducing hours and eventually closing for an extended period of time. They didn’t make it sound like it was permanent, but who knows in this economy?

  • title is misspelled….

  • Until seven months ago, I lived less than a block away from Coopers, and they were never open even back then. Ever. So much so that I started hoofing to Pfeiffers and never looked back.

  • I live on that block, and the last time I saw it open was before Thanksgiving. What surprises me is that there’s no sign on the door or anything. They just did that nice facelift of the front… though the interior was still in desperate need of a good cleaning and re-org. I hope they re-open. I like that store.

  • I like Cooper for the friendly service and their uncanny knack for having whatever it is I need (go figure), but I would never call the place particularly dependable. They seem to be frequently closed when one would expect them to be open. If I am walking by and I think of something I need, I’ll stop in, but if I’m planning a trip to the hardware store, I’ll go to Mt. Pleasant. It’s too bad. I’d like to give Cooper my business, but I’m not going to waste a trip just to run into a locked door.
