From a press release:

“Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC) along with Union Station Parking Garage (USPG) have announced the grand opening of the Union Station Lending Library. The library currently holds over 100 books, ranging in categories from fiction, auto-biographies, children’s literature, young adult, and more.

The library, originally inspired by the Bryant Park Reading Room in New York City, is open and available to the public at no charge. Situated in the waiting pavilion on the bus deck level of the parking garage, the lending library is open to all station visitors, but primarily targets those boarding and de-boarding the buses. The library operates on a leave-one/take-one system, and visitors are encouraged to use the books while waiting for their rides, or even to take them along on their trips. Likewise, any additions to the library from passengers are also welcomed.

The books hosted on the shelves have been donated by Better World Books, an organization whose mission is to promote and fund literacy, and donates books with every purchase made on their website BetterWorldBooks.com.”

“a candy store (I think the same one as in Chinatown Ed. Note: similar looking but not the same folks) appears to be coming to Union Station, in the same space where the Papyrus used to be. (Papyrus recently moved to a different space in another part of Union Station.)”

Sugar Factory’s facebook page says:

“Sugar Factory has made confections part of popular culture and has turned sweets into the latest designer accessory. Best known for its signature Couture Pops, iconic superstars including Britney Spears, Drake, Nicole Scherzinger, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Carmen Electra and Rupert Grint are just a few of the celebrities who have either endorsed or have been spotted with the sparkly lollipops. The celebrity affiliations have made Couture Pops an international phenomenon with widespread media attention from The Today Show, Daily Mail, AOL, Good Morning America, People, Extra and more.

Colorful candy bins line the walls and walkways of the retail stores, where stylish retail for all ages hang from walls and racks. Signature candies such as fudge-covered pretzel sticks, milk chocolate-covered Oreos and Rice Krispies Treats® coated with frosting appeal to the most discerning sweet tooth. Freshly made gelato available in an array of flavors cool off and delight guests. Framed photographs of celebrities holding various Couture Pops hang high from the walls, making Sugar Factory more than just a retail store; it’s also a popular spot for sightseeing.”

Thanks to a reader for updating us on the Walgreens coming to Union Station:

“I spoke with an employee of Union Station this morning. He confirmed that the Walgreens will be located in the back of the food court, as discussed below. It’s not scheduled to open for 10 months, however! The other construction going on in the Union Station food court is mostly to create as-yet-unrented retail spaces. He confirmed that a Dunkin Donuts was originally supposed to go in by the Bojangles, but that those papers have not yet been signed. He also said that another Chipotle would be opening in the food court, even though there’s already a Chipotle on the first floor of Union Station. He speculated that the reason Chipotle would want to open two restaurants in the same building is that the original Chipotle is hugely busy and has consistently long lines.”

“Dear PoPville,

I heard second-hand that the Walgreens in Union Station rumors have been confirmed. Some of the merchants who are being displaced in the food court area, said that a Walgreens and possibly a Harris Teeter (although this part sounds unlikely) would be located in the food court area where the Indian restaurant currently is.

I would be so excited if this were true! Union Station needs a drugstore like crazy.”

Ed. Note: Do you think there’s enough room for a Walgreens and a Harris Teeter? Would it even make sense to have both? Maybe it’ll be one of those big Walgreens that have a significant grocery section?
