Update: 11:30 am from Brent: “Long, But not Insane”

This is in the old ShopHouse space, RIP. From CAVA:

“D.C. bred fast-casual restaurant and culinary brand CAVA will begin serving its signature balanced-yet-craveable menu at a new location in iconic city landmark Union Station beginning November 21.

To celebrate, CAVA will offer 202 free meals to the community starting at 11 am on opening day, a nod to D.C.’s longtime area code. (more…)

First the F Street pop up and now the Union Station Uniqlo is open!!

Ed. Note: I saw it all set up in full glory after coming off an Amtrak last night but I had two crying kids with me and couldn’t take a picture – it was glorious though. GLORIOUS!

Update:

And blessing to Brent for sending this great dockless find last week: “Left INSIDE Union Station, in front of the forthcoming Uniqlo.”

Hello architectural plans!! And allow me to once again thank the Gods for such zoom technology on a $200 camera. Last month we broke the news that UNIQLO was hiring for a Union Station location. However, we had been burned in the past with similar job listing so reservations remained. Not anymore. This was at the end of a 15.1 mile walkabout so I thought maybe I was hallucinating – but no – that logo is too distinct even upside down:

So rejoice fellow UNIQLO fans – rejoice for real!! Still a ways to go of course:

But it is indeed the spot I figured last month, the old swatch store all the way back to the former cd store on the main floor. STAY TUNED.

A liquor license placard for the Legal Seafoods coming to Union Station says:

“New Class “C” Restaurant with 71 seats and a Total Occupancy Load of 101. Restaurant will serve traditional seafood fare including clams, cod, crab and chowder. No nude performances.”

Hours are listed as Sunday 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm, Monday through Saturday 11:00 am – 9:00 pm.

You can see Legal Sea Foods Chinatown’s menus here.

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to alert you to a potential traffic issue I’ve been noticing more than more. There’s a very weird intersection around the southwest corner of Union Station, where the cabs/cars/buses that have dropped off people in the front come out to either Mass Ave (turning left or right) or going straight down E Street. If you look at the map, though, there’s also a small lane that comes out of First Street NE. The traffic lights are not well angled, so when the Union Station lane gets the red light, the First Street lane gets green, but I’ve seen several times cars (cabs in particular) from Union Station mistaking the second green as theirs, and driving out. What’s worse is that there are generally a lot of bicyclists in the First Street lane, and I worry eventually someone will get hit.”
