Whoa, thanks to Nicole for sending yesterday:

“I went to go to Pho Viet and saw a ton of jack hammering and construction. Any idea what is going on? My friend told me that she was there last week and they had a sign that they would be closed this week. Hope they reopen soon!”

I’m gonna file this as new patio coming!!

11th and Fairmont Street, NW

In late July we posted about the new Pho Viet opening at 11th and Fairmont St, NW. It wasn’t clear if they were the same owners as on 14th (and the coming Bun DC opening August 25th) but Will updates us:

“I did ask them and it is the same owners. They confirmed that and told me they opened two weeks ago. It’s a small restaurant with two tables, some window seats and I believe one working in the kitchen. Had it the other day was really good.”

Rachel reports:

“We went to the new Pho Viet over on 11th for dinner. According to the young couple running it, it seems they are not actually of the same family as the other Pho Viet, Bun DC, etc.

My husband and I shared the shrimp spring rolls and each had the spicy lemongrass beef pho. Read More

YES Finally!! Thanks to Amanda for sending the good word on Bun DC‘s imminent opening:

“Bún DC is a family-owned restaurant serving authentic dishes from Sóc Trăng, Vietnam. Our recipes are inspired by memories of growing up and learning to cook in Southern Vietnam, and we are proud to share our culture with you at this quaint little restaurant in the nation’s capital.
Bún DC is the sister restaurant of Pho Viet–located at 3513 14th St NW, Washington, DC.”

S reports:

“pho coming to 11th and Fairmont!! Wondering if it’s the same as Pho Viet on 14th!”

Updates as they get closer to opening, and based on their Bun DC website don’t appear to be affiliated with Pho Viet on 14th.

Ed. Note: This still could be huge.

Ed. Note part two As to the status of Bun DC the new sister restaurant to Pho Viet on 14th, they’re new website (thanks to Mark for sending) is live: Read More

Thanks to Eric for sending. Any fans of “Sóc Trăng” style cuisine?

Another reader writes:

“This house has been abandoned for at least three years and all of sudden in the last 2 months a lot of work has been done. I am not 100% sure, but I could’ve sworn I saw a couple people leave the house one evening with “Pho Viet” shirts. Now today this sign popped up on the house. I hope the Pho Viet crew (3513 14th Street, NW) are opening a new restaurant.”

Last month the Washington Post shared my love for Pho Viet (with tons of info about the restaurant and family) and included this little tidbit at the end:

“Along with her mother, Nguyen is opening a second restaurant in the area early next year, focusing on bun rieu, a vermicelli soup popular throughout southern Vietnam. The restaurant is an homage to the region where Nguyen’s love of cooking was born — and the woman who taught her about food.”

Updates when they get closer to opening. STAY TUNED.

Thanks to Laura for sending this great news about the former Ethiopian bodega spot across the street from the Petworth metro. The very early word on Yelp for Pho Viet USA is very very good:

“This new place is wonderful! Right off the metro so it’s in a great spot. Lee (who served us) is so friendly and awesome. He treated us to some of the egg roles and they were amazing. The Pho was pretty good too. Yummy jasmine tea! We’ll be eating here again!! Great addition to our neighborhood.”
