“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today filed a lawsuit to stop the federal government’s illegal deployment of National Guard troops in the District of Columbia. Since the President’s August 11 announcement, nearly 2,300 National Guard troops, including units from seven states, have been deployed to the District and placed under the command of the Department of Defense. These deployments amount to an involuntary military occupation that far exceeds the President’s authority over the National Guard. In addition, most or all of the troops have been deputized by the US Marshals Service to conduct law enforcement activities in the District, in violation of the foundational prohibition on military involvement in local law enforcement. “Dear PoPville,

This morning, at 6:15AM, a cop car with sirens followed by 3-4 large military vehicles were heading north on 8th St SE and one of the military vehicles loudly t-boned a vehicle heading southwest on North Carolina Avenue SE. From my viewpoint, this was clearly not an intentional stopping/crashing of a vehicle.

Following the crash, a group of national guard hopped off to go see what had happened.

I’m curious if the person in the car is okay…”

C writes: “I was in ballston yesterday and got harassed in the girls bathroom multiple times for wearing my mask. It was so odd and I couldn’t figure it out – after leaving we saw a tour bus outside. I am guessing everyone is in town for the rally tomorrow. Be careful!”

“Several National Guard units have seen their deployments extended involuntarily, though a majority of Guardsmen remaining in Washington will do so on a volunteer basis. Around 7,000 troops will continue to provide riot security through the beginning of February, with that number decreasing slightly to 5,000 by the time Trump’s impeachment trial begins.(more…)
