“Thursday eve… I was walking across 16th and columbia with my bike- gold pants and a white seinfeld tshirt. You were walking the opposite way with a rake- in some sort of blue jacket. My glasses were on my forehead (stupid mask fog) and I couldn’t tell if we we’re making a ton of eye contact, were we making a lot of eye contact?? I think we were.

Regardless, I was in a huge hurry to fix my bike before close and you were clearly going somewhere very urgent with that rake. Was this a missed connection?”

“I got COVID tested this Tuesday morning at the Judiciary Square testing site.

I noticed a woman behind as the line progressed. As I got to the table where they confirm your birthday and give you the testing bag I could have sworn we made eye contact a few different times before we walked down for the test and out of the site. I almost said something as we were walking out, but didnt.

She had headphones on and one of the testing nurses complimented her shorts and I think I heard that we have the same birthday month. If this was you reach out because what could be more emblematic of these times!!”

“Dear PoPville,

On this super hot/humid thursday (9/3) morning I was walking by Tryst on 18th after taking a run and saw a super cute woman sitting & reading at one of the outdoor tables in the corner of the patio (I think she was wearing a Michigan shirt)

I wish I had said something at the time but didn’t! Wanted to put this out there if she noticed a guy walking by (around 9:00am) in orange/pink shorts and a gray T-shirt wearing a mask. If this is you and you did notice me please reach out!! I feel crazy doing this, but it’s COVID so why not!”

Also our last missed connection at Tryst resulted in two connections sadly they were not the missed one.

“Dear PoPville,

Late morning yesterday (Monday 8/24) I saw a (very cute!) guy sitting outside Tryst bakery on 18th – we shared eye contact for a bit as I walked by. On my way back up 18th a few minutes later, I scanned the Tryst patio and found him already looking at me with a big smile as I walked by. I smiled back but had a mask on and was in a rush. I wish I’d done something, though I don’t even know what that would look like! I’ve been thinking about that quick little exchange today, even though he’s probably married – or just a normal friendly dude and I’ve simply reached the romanticizing-literally-any-human-gesture stage of quarantine. “Dear PoPville,

I was at bagels etc around noon on Sunday, you were with a few friends and needed a dollar, I gave you one and you were appreciative. It was a quick encounter but now I’m curious / interested about you. Here’s shooting my shot!”

Well this is awesome. Got this email from the Humane Rescue Alliance yesterday:

“We saw your missed connections post about the dog, Nick, and we tracked down the adopters.”

Now, because it took me three times to pass blogging school – it will not be a surprise that I messed up. I deleted the original email and need OP to email me again so I can connect you with the adopters!!

In the meantime check out this update from the adopters – and thanks again to the Humane Rescue Alliance for making the connection: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

You let me pet your Great Dane, Dapple, for a solid 10 minutes at 18th & Mass Ave NW this past Tuesday. I spent about 6 of those minutes trying to work up the courage to ask for your number but obviously failed so now making an attempt at a second chance using the more cowardly/courageous (really not sure which, anyone care to weigh in using the comments section? thanks!) route of the internet. Hope this works!”

“Dear PoPville,

This past week, I was lost in thought on an early Monday morning run near the Mall when I tripped and came down hard on the sidewalk (2020, man). A nice man happened to be running by and stopped to help me up. He offered to walk me to the nearest fire station to get the wounds cleaned up, waited with me, and then walked me most of the way home. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I found the small male pitbull-type dog in the attached pictures in early June 2018 on my street in Fairlawn. He was beat up like he’d maybe jumped out of a car or had been fending for himself for a while. He was scared to death but eventually followed me in to my house and latched on to me. I called the Humane Rescue Alliance and they took him to the New York Ave shelter and cleaned him up and named him Nick. The pics are from his page on the site, and he was only there for a few days before his page disappeared, so I’m assuming (hoping!) he was adopted. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Like Love in the Time of Cholera, but less magical realism as we live in DC so lets be real. I was walking at the bottom of Meridian Hill/Malcolm X park; you were sitting alone on the edge of where the last pool would be if it had water in it, wearing a delightful summer dress and had blonde hairish. I was wearing maroon running shorts and a black tee shirt with black hair. You gave me a delightful smile and I returned one. I noticed a look as I looked backed as I walked away and then walked to the top of the fountain. Upon descending back down to wear you were to say hello, you were gone. Love in the Time of Covid-19 still has magic to it, at least I hope.

Poetically yours,
David”
