“Dear PoPville,

I never do this, but it’s 2020, so why not? I’m a single straight cis woman in her 30s who loves to bike on the weekends – it’s been the best part of the pandemic for me. On my ride yesterday [Saturday], I came across a cute guy in a blue biking top right before the bike bridge to Bladensburg sitting down on the grass off the trail. My gut reaction was to ask if he was okay (if he needed help with his bike since I carry some tools with me), and he said he was just stopping to watch the crows and thanked me for asking.

I slowed down but didn’t stop and didn’t realize until after the fact that he said something else so …. maybe he was trying to chat? Anyways, I was on a white bike with a blaze orange jacket and a pink mask.

On a side note – do you know of any resources for single adults at high risk for covid complications here in the District? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Thanksgiving Day, Prince William Forest Park. You: Chief’s Dad. Me: The smartest woman in the world. It was a fun convo and I thought you were kinda cute. Maybe we could grab a socially distanced coffee and chat camping, pups and election night drinking games some time …”

“Dear PoPville,

This morning [Tuesday] when getting a latte at The Coffee Bar in Shaw a man approached me thinking I was someone he was waiting for. I was swift to tell him he had the wrong person. He blamed the mix up on the mask. But in reflection, I wish I wasn’t so quick to dismiss him. He was tall and skinny. I had cheetah print sneakers on. Hoping you enjoyed your time with whomever you mistaken me for, but would love to connect!”

“Dear PoPville,

I was in line [Wednesday], November 18, to get a COVID test at Judiciary Square from about 9-11am (in the FRIGID cold) and a guy caught my eye standing a few places in line behind me. Although he had a mask on and was bundled up, I picked up on his general demeanor and gathered that he was a genuinely good person. Unfortunately, given the circumstances (trying to stay warm/alive, 30-foot distance between us, etc) I wasn’t able to break the ice with him – pun intended. I’m hoping I can make contact with him and see how accurate my Good Guy radar is. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Sunday late morning at the Potomac Vie de France – I was wearing the Alaska cycling shirt. We talked about rides in the area and scuba diving. Didn’t even exchange names so other than knowing this guy is from Atlanta, lived in Mt P and now on the hill, I’ve got nothing to go on. I was lame and didn’t think to just offer my name and suggest riding together sometime.”

“Dear PoPville,

I was walking my dog on 14th and N This afternoon (Tuesday, 10/20 ~3:30) when a guy stopped me to ask if he could take me out for drinks sometime.

I’m not sure if the pandemic has ruined my social skills, or if I have developed such a strong instinct to avoid random men on the street who call me cute..but I just awkwardly laughed and said no thank you. We went on our separate ways.

A few seconds later I realized that: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was walking down Lanier Pl to grab coffee at Philz late this morning (Thursday, 10/15 around 1130) when I made eye contact with a very handsome man sitting on the patio with a friend. For a second, I thought it was a dude I’d previously dated (that ghosted me) so I turned around to confirm if it was him — it wasn’t. Basically, both of us ended up doing a double take to make eye contact again. At this point I flashed an inviting smile, alas mask got in the way and the moment was lost! If you are this handsome man and I read the situation correctly, hit me up! (If you are the handsome man and I read it wrong, please do not message me to destroy the fantasy!)”

“Dear PoPville,

“On Wednesday evening (October 14), a very helpful woman on her bike ride out of the Navy Yard gates stopped as I was walking my own across M Street SE. She asked if she could help with a flat tire and then laughed when I showed her that my bike was fine and I was just having a cargo problem — I bought more than I could safely carry in my bike bag at Blue Jacket and had to walk it home. Always good to find a fan of quality beer, especially if she’s a bike commuter.”

“Dear PoPville,

I saw a really cute guy yesterday (Tuesday, October 13) at around 2:45 pm at the 14th St. NW USPS underneath the Municipal Affairs building. He had a skateboard and a very cute gray and white doggy with him. We exchanged looks and commented on the long line, but I chickened out and left without even asking his dog’s name let alone his own name or number! Please help me find the Sk8er Boy, PoPville!”

“Dear PoPville,

Can you help me find Cody? Last Sunday, 10/4, I was at Meridian Hill Park and noticed a cute guy packing up his hammock. I thought he left a hammock strap behind, so I chased him down and introduced myself, but I chickened out on asking him for his number before he biked away!

Cody, if you see this, let’s meet in the same spot for a hammock date on Friday, October 9 at 6pm!

OK Meridian Hill/Malcolm X missed connections are closed until next month :)
