We briefly touched on Pasta Mia when discussing the best Italian restaurants in DC. But for some reason Pasta Mia stirs some really strong emotions. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the place without a big line on the weekends. Yet almost everyone I speak with hates it. If everyone hates it then why are there always lines? They have to be doing something right. Right?

Now that I have the poll thing figured out I can add a poll after recommendations are submitted in the comments section. I have gone on record saying that I love Al Crostino (pictured above) on U Street. They have a fantastic wine menu, the stuffed ravioli and prosciutto dish are both ridiculously good.  And of course the servers are super nice.  So what’s your favorite Italian?

Here were the recommendations for best Sushi, Indian, falafel, Ethiopian, and Middle Eastern.

Someone mentioned this restaurant in a previous post’s comments section. Apparently it is owned and operated by Ethiopians and there was some speculation that perhaps Italy’s occupation of Ethiopia may have been an influence. Anyone else know the story behind this restaurant or have eaten here? Most importantly, how’s the food?

I was very hesitant to post this entry. This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Washington. Al Crostino, an Italian restaurant with a fantastic wine list and delicious food is located on U Street between 13th and 14th. The servers are the nicest, the chef cares, and the prosciutto is unbelievable. Normally, I like to keep secrets like this to myself but I have grown to like you guys so I thought I’d share. If you are going on a date this place is the best – you can impress without breaking your wallet. Plus you are in a fantastic location to go for drinks after dinner. The ravioli is my personal favorite but this is one of the few places where you really can’t go wrong with whatever you order. So thank me later after you try this place!
