Silver lining is those God forsaken reversible lanes during rush hour have been suspended

From a press release:

“The District of Columbia Government has modified its operations in order to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the District Department of Public Works (DPW) have modified several operations, systems and services.

District Department of Transportation (DDOT)

  • All rush hour parking restrictions will be suspended effective Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 a.m.
  • Rush hour reversible lanes operations on Connecticut Avenue and 16th Street NW will be suspended effective Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 a.m. Reversible lanes operations on Independence Avenue and Canal Road will continue to operate as normal during the morning and evening rush hours. DDOT will use dynamic message boards to communicate these changes to the traveling public.
  • Effective immediately, the DC Circulator is suspending fares on all routes during the declared public health emergency. Additionally, effective Thursday, March 19, the DC Circulator will suspend service on the National Mall Route. Suspension of fares allows passengers to board the bus from all doors in support of social distancing practices recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Passengers who require wheelchair access may still use the front door to board.

Ed. Note: Check the comments here for more places to get to go beer and drinks and check out this post for many more restaurants to support and order from.

From Old Europe:

“Dear friends and patrons of Old Europe,

On Monday afternoon, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that starting at 10 PM, all restaurants and bars in DC would be temporarily closed for dine-in service. Old Europe is of course, no exception, so in order to ensure you can still get your German food fix, we are shifting to DELIVERY AND TAKEOUT SERVICE ONLY.

At the moment, the restaurant will be open for orders from a limited menu from 11 AM until 8 PM. As we announced in the previous email, delivery through us is FREE now with no minimum! We are also partnered with third-party delivery apps Doordash and UberEats. Please see below for more details. (more…)

From MPD:

“The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) takes pride in professionally responding to crisis situations, and we will continue to do so throughout the current public health emergency. This is a constantly evolving situation that requires MPD to do our part to limit exposure without interrupting the high level of service provided to our community. It is necessary that MPD maintains a healthy workforce so that we may continue providing emergency services when called upon. We have identified certain operational measures that can be temporarily modified for the community and our members.

It is important to note that MPD facilities remain open at this time, but to mitigate potential exposure to and spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), operational adjustments have been implemented and will continue to expand as required. Additionally, if calling for police services and you are experiencing flu-like or COVID-19 symptoms, including fever, cough, and shortness of breath, callers should notify the dispatcher so first responders may take appropriate safety precautions upon their arrival.

The following operational adjustments are in place at MPD: (more…)

Another reader sends the above from 1329 V Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

My landlord has decided to sell the row house I’m currently renting. We have one of three units. They’re planning on listing it this week and of course want to start showing it.

I am not at all wild about the idea of strangers coming into our home during a quarantine. I’m not trying to be difficult or hold up the process, but this is an extraordinary time and I was wondering what the community thinks. Do we have any recourse? Do I just have to let any potential buyer in? Thanks.”

“Dear PoPville,

Just wondering if someone in the DC community can shed some light on how can we best support our medical providers who are working so hard during this time. Can we send food to the hospital? I am planning to donate blood- Where people can donate blood- now that I look, I’m having trouble getting the Red Cross website to load and I’m unsure if that’s because it’s not open? Any other ideas?”

and

“We’d like to talk about donating to hospitals and healthcare facilities in Washington DC. Where can we send supplies or money? We’d love to be able to donate to the places most in need since we’ve committed to sitting on our couch the next few weeks.”

From an email:

“As we sat around the restaurant yesterday trying to figure out the best way to move forward it dawned on us that not only are our local vendors and suppliers suffering, but there could be a match made between customers wanting to stay away from large grocery store environments, and the products they desire/need. In this moment Walters Country Store Account (WaltersCSA) came to life.

Bridging the gap between local suppliers and our customers Walters CSA will offer pre packaged bundles available to purchase online and picked up in store. Please note all Beer/Liquor/Wine must accompany a food purchase.

Our goal is to help keep the supply chain moving as best we can. For our customers who have the means to keep purchasing to our suppliers who have the means to keep producing WaltersCSA can be a safe link in between.

Head over to Waltersdc.com/Walters-csa to sign up for our newsletter. We will send out our first email today by 2pm with our options. Orders will need to be placed by 7pm for pickup the next day between 4-10pm. We’re also happy to look at special requests.

Stay Clean”

Ed. Note: Walters (10 N Street, SE) is “also getting growlers in from DC Brau for filling later today.”
