Not that my brain can focus for more than three seconds these days but for those who are more disciplined than I, this is great! Capitol Hill Books tweeted the other day:

From WMATA:

“Metro’s Pandemic Task Force today announced the strategic closing of 17 additional stations, effective Thursday, March 26, 2020, in an effort to conserve critical resources and protect the health and safety of Metro employees and the public. This follows drastic measures already taken to reduce travel on Metro to essential trips only, leading to a Metrorail ridership decline of 90 percent.

These steps will help reduce the risk of exposure to employees and save critical cleaning supplies for the remaining stations. While Metro increased its on-hand warehouse inventory of essential supplies, such as hospital-grade disinfectant, wipes, hand sanitizer, and other items used by Metro’s frontline employees, suppliers are experiencing delivery delays. Metro is taking action to make its current 2-3 week warehouse supply stretch until massive orders placed in late January are received.

Each Metrorail station has multiple escalators, faregates and other high touch surfaces that are being cleaned daily, including some stations with multiple entrances. By reducing the number of entrances, Metro will be able to better protect its workforce and customers and prolong the inventory of these critical supplies needed to keep the system open.

Beginning on Thursday, March 26, Metro will close 17 additional stations following the closures of Smithsonian and Arlington Cemetery stations last week. The 19 stations will remain closed until further notice and trains will pass through without stopping.

The following stations within walking distance or close proximity (less than one mile) to an adjacent station will be closed: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My partner and I are now both working from home during isolation and while we thought the dogs would enjoy more company around, one of our dogs has been acting out. This week, he’s chewed a shoe up, took a sweet potato pocket off my plate and today woke up to him chewing on a stuffed animal my girlfriend has had for 30+ years–all things he never did until this week. We’ve been playing with them more, taking them on longer walks than we typically would and yet he still misbehaves. He has dozens of toys to chew so he’s not lacking in that department. Just curious if anyone else is noticing their animal’s behavior changing at all. Does he need more alone time to balance out all the time we are spending home? Any reader advice or experience would be appreciated.

“Dear PoPville,

Like many families in DC (and around the country), I have found myself at home with my 9 year old daughter with many hours to fill.

A good friend let me know about the Kindness Rocks Project, and my daughter and I painted some rocks over the last few days.

Just this morning we walked around the neighborhood and picked a few spots to leave them for people to find and hopefully bring them a smile. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I live near Sherwood Recreation Center park in Ward Six by the H Street Corridor, which was shuttered a few days ago by the city. A small group of parents and children have started congregating in a parking lot adjacent to the park. While most adults (not all!) are keeping a distance of six feet from each other, children from different households continue to play together. So, germs continue jumping from household to household, defeating the purpose of closing the park to enforce social distancing measures. I am sure this scene is playing out in shuttered parks across the city. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I had 2 different couples invite me into their homes over the weekend. The first wanted our dogs to get out some energy while we worked inside and the second wanted to feed me brunch on Sunday. While it was nice to have friends thinking of me and wanting to spend time with me (I’m single so distancing can get lonely), this is exactly what we SHOULDN’T do while social distancing! (more…)
