From MPD:

“On March 27, 2020 at 431 pm, the Fourth District was on scene at Washington Hospital Center when an officer heard the sound of a gunshot. That officer immediately apprehended the suspect and secured the weapon. No one was harmed during this accidental discharge and it is believed the discharge was not directed at anyone. The suspect was charged with subsequently charged for this incident.”

Earlier this morning Jennie tweeted us: “Fun exercising on the National Mall this am as a cop drove around blasting “Eye of the Tiger” as we ran.” Fortunately Kate Bell got some video above of it – thanks to Kate for allowing us to share it.

From the good people of All Purpose:

“Both All-Purpose locations are offering selections from the regular menu for takeout and delivery alongside nightly specials, including take-home pizza kits with everything you need to bake pizza at home ($15). Alcohol to-go is available for pickup only and can be ordered ahead online. The menu includes wine, beer, growler fills, Aperol Spritz kits, batched cocktails and a selection of “bottomless” brunch cocktail packages. AP Shaw piloted a CSA this week to help our farmers at Earth N Eats Farms.

This week’s box (picture above) had 1 dozen eggs, 1/2 gallon of milk, 1lb carrots, 2 heads of lettuce, 8oz salad mix greens, 1.5lbs of dried beans, 3lbs Kennenbec pototoes & 1lb beets. We are purchasing them for $25 from the farms and selling them for $20.83 + 20% employee fund (total of $25).* Let me know if this needs clarification. The plan is to expand the CSA program to All-Purpose Capitol Riverfront this week. Each location will have boxes delivered on Tuesdays for purchase that day (while supplies last). Both APs are also selling convenience items like toilet paper ($1 per roll) and can be added on to any food order.

From a press release:

“As plant-centric Oyster Oyster prepared to finally open its doors after years in the making, COVID-19 hit and the restaurant brainstormed ways to take care of staff it had already hired, and cover bills so it could hopefully, eventually open once this world pandemic was over. Enter: Scrappy’s Bagel Bar – a temporary weekend pop-up from Chef Rob Rubba, featuring homemade bagels and schmears, plus at-home mimosa kits served out of its sister restaurant Estadio. Scrappy’s Bagel Bar will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 11am until the bagels run out.

There were many factors that inspired the pop-up and helped it all come together: Rubba’s first job was baking bagels and making bagel sandwiches at a Manhattan Bagel shop in southern Jersey, he started his culinary career in pastry and often makes bagels at home for his family, and Estadio has fantastic bread ovens (which has allowed them to bake all breads in-house) at their disposal. From Ivy & Coney:

“folks have been super generous with their purchases and donations to our staff as we struggle to make it through this. As a small thank you we have created a coloring book and will be giving out digital pages each day to anyone donating or making purchases through our website (new pages every few days). Hopefully it provides a small amount of entertainment to help keep folks sane as we ride this out.”

Ed. Note: Thanks to Maggie for passing on this list for how to help workers in the DMV Beauty Industry.

“Dear PoPville,

I’m wondering what other folks in the city are doing in terms of haircuts/trims etc now that barbers and hair salons are closed. Learning to cut their own hair? Curious to hear how it’s going for others.”

Ed. Note two: I imagine we’re all just gonna be a bit shaggy at the end of this.
