From WMATA:

“Today, SmarTrip® — the way to pay for Metro and all regional transit providers in the Washington, DC area — is launching on iPhone and Apple Watch, giving riders new and unparalleled convenience. Riders can now add a SmarTrip card to iPhone and Apple Watch, and simply hold their device near the card reader to pay anywhere SmarTrip is accepted: all 91 Metrorail stations in DC, Maryland and Virginia; all Metro parking garages and lots; all Metrobus routes; and all regional bus providers, including ART, DASH, Fairfax Connector, Cue, Ride On, TheBus, Circulator, Loudoun County Transit, and Potomac and Rappahannock Transit/PRTC.

SmarTrip on iPhone and Apple Watch provides riders a “touch-free” experience and a safer way to pay. From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced that the operating hours of three DC Circulator routes will extend to 11:00 p.m.

“As we continue through our COVID-19 response and simultaneous recovery, we remain committed to providing safe and socially distanced transit options,” said Mayor Bowser. “Over the past several months, the Circulator has helped many of our essential workers move around the District and get to work. We are proud to have this service available, and happy to be extending the hours so that it works even better for our community.”

Starting Sunday, August 30, the following routes will operate weekdays 6:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. and weekends 7:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.: (more…)

From the Mayor’s Office:

“On Monday, August 24, DC Health released an updated list of high-risk states where the seven-day moving average of daily new COVID-19 cases is 10 or more per 100,000 persons. Mayor Bowser issued Mayor’s Order 2020-081 with requirements for all people traveling into Washington, DC from high-risk states.

Today, DC Health removed Delaware from the list of high-risk states. When DC Health created the most recent list, the posted data indicated that Delaware met the requirements of a high-risk state. Since then, the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services has provided DC Health with updated data. Epidemiologists from the two health agencies reviewed this matter to understand how Delaware’s publicly available data and the Delaware Department’s latest data could allow for this revision. Thanks to Andrea for passing on the incredibly sad news from Twins Jazz:

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the Jazz community in Washington, DC for 33 years. We came to this country from Ethiopia with a dream of owning our own business and for 33 years we have done more than we could have ever imagined. The decision to close was very difficult, however, we knew the safety of our patrons, musicians, and our staff was our top priority, and given the uncertainty of when we could safely open our doors, we decided to close our location permanently. “Dear PoPville,

I got a covid test at the Columbia Heights fire station this week and could not recommend the experience more! I was completely surprised with how efficient the setup was and how not invasive the test was- they only put the swab about 1/2 inch up my nose and my brain is still intact! I arrived about 15 minutes before they “opened” and was on my way home about 15 minutes after the line began moving.

I know that DC says I should get my results in 3-5 business days but was hoping to hear how long other readers waited for results, especially if they were tested recently.

Thanks to Owen for passing on the sad news:

“Devastated to see a “for rent” sign in what used to be Sweetpea’s Soul Food on Georgia Ave. Their sign has also been removed from the establishment. Do you know anything more? Last I communicated with them on Instagram a few months ago, they indicated just being temporarily closed.”
