kenny_loggins_kickstarter_dc

Last week we noted the “I want Kenny Loggins to play in my living room.” kickstarter made it to Jimmy Kimmel and had raised $10 Grand of the $30 needed. Well, miracle of miracles, with 10 days to spare over $30,000 has been pledged and Kenny is coming to a DC living room to play an acoustic set for 75 minutes. My sources on the inside tell me the concert should happen in early 2015.

Amazing. I love August.

We first heard about this new bakery back in Sept. 2013.  Three Fifty Bakery & Coffee Bar is located in the former Written Word space at 1926 17th St, NW just south of U Street not far from the Hana Japanese Market. A reader sends the good news this morning:

“The long awaited bakery has finally opened to public today. My girlfriend and I snuck in for an illy coffee and bacon/cheddar/chive scone. Delicious.”

Yes!!!

Cardozo Pool 2

Yesterday we learned that the Swimming Pool at Cardozo high school was completely restored and would open to the public in October. Thanks to DCPS for sending us these awesome photos of how it turned out. An awesome indoor complement to Banneker!

Ed. Note: Thanks to a twitter follower for tweeting us some historical photos of how it used to look.

A reader asks:

“Any idea what’s going in across from the looking glass lounge on georgia ave?”

Coming-Soon-Signs

Owner Katy Chang sends us an update on EatsPlace via email:

“EatsPlace is on target for an opening at the end of summer. We’ll be announcing the first chef residencies in the next week or so and posting menus on the blog. We put up coming soon banners (pic above). EatsPlace is a neighborhood restaurant and pop-uppery that hosts chefs through its food incubator program.”

Can’t wait to see how this turns out! Stay tuned.

“Life Out There: A Space Journey with the House Band of the Universe

Evening Seminar with performance

Friday, July 25 – 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, July 26 – 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Navy Memorial, 701 Pennsylvania Ave., Wash, DC

What is life, really? How did it begin on Earth and where else might we find it in our solar system and beyond? David Grinspoon, an astrobiologist at the Library of Congress, and Ka Chun Yu, curator of space science at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, offer a mind-blowing trip through space and time—set to live funky jazz. See our home in space from a cosmic perspective and search for clues to life, from the infant Earth where life first arose to the mysterious, promising depths of Saturn’s strangely vibrant moons. The journey includes previously unseen state-of-the-art digital visuals and musical interpretation by the House Band of the Universe. Definitely not an ordinary planetarium show, this is an evening that’s guaranteed to be “psychoastrobiofunkiliscious.”

Smithsonian Associates Members $30, General Admission $42. www.smithsonianassociates.org 202-633-3030 for tickets.”
