Been a rough day today – thank you for this John Cochran, thank you.
“This squirrel managed to work the top of our bird feeder and get inside. He’d hit the jackpot. Then one of his squirrel buddies knocked the top and trapped him inside. He got out eventually, but it took a while.”
And absolutely, please consider this a bonus caption contest photo.

“Ulysses Uncut
Jun 15 at 5:00pm to Jun 17 at 12:00am
Petworth Citizen
829 Upshur Street, NW
Join us for a MARATHON reading of James Joyce’s masterpiece Ulysses. That’s right, that means we’re reading the entire book, from start to finish. It will run for approximately 30 hours from June 15 at 5pm through the evening of June 16. We’ll have coffee, Irish whiskey, and food aplenty, including specialty cocktails, two breakfasts, and – during opening hours – Petworth Citizen’s usual delicious menu.
It’s our first Bloomsday event – and the only marathon reading in DC! – and we want you to be part of it!

From a press release:
“On June 25, 2015, 3 Stars Brewing Company will release their first ever canned beers. Just in time for summer, the Ghost White IPA and Citra Lemon Saison will be the first canned beers to debut. Packaged and canned at the brewery by River City Mobile Canning, these tall boys come in 4-packs and will be available for purchase at most local DC retailers.
DC-grown and taste-driven, 3 Stars is taking summer sipping to a whole new level with two of their favorite warm-weather beers. The Citra Lemon Saison (5.2%abv) has subtle citrus notes and a touch of tartness, making it a perfect pair for grilled barbeque chicken and backyard parties. The Ghost White IPA (5.9%abv) with its bright finish and lingering hop bitterness is best served alongside seared fish and poolside rays.
The 16-ounce tall boys are easy to spot. Look for the 3 Stars family shield and familiar skull logos wrapping the cans. The green/yellow/orange Saison and silver/white/blue Ghost White IPA labels are both designed by Kendra Kuliga of Cielo Productions, whose work can be seen across 3 Stars materials, website and on-site at the brewery.
Get bigger flavor in bigger cans. Grab a 4-pack (or more) of 3 Stars’ new cans starting June 25 at the brewery or a fine retailer near you.”

From a Shaw listserv:
“My name is Josh Saltzman and I’m one of the owners of Ivy and Coney. We are excited to present to the neighborhood our planned roof deck expansion. This will entail us adding a full kitchen (because we know everyone is tired of eating just hot dogs), an outside bar and more seating. Additionally, the roof deck will have 12 foot walls and a retractable roof that will allow the deck to be enjoyed in all seasons and provide a large measure of noise reduction. We would love to here from all of you, our neighbors (and hopefully our customers), regarding what you think of our plans. We welcome all critiques, good and bad. We will be hosting a meeting at the Kennedy Rec Center this coming Tuesday, May 26th at 7 PM to answer any questions or concerns. Please feel free to pass our information along to any fellow residents that are less technologically inclined. A small slide set with more details: Expansion-Overview (PDF)“

From a press release:
“Kingman Island will soon be available for private rentals and special events. Union Kitchen and Living Classrooms Foundation are partnering to manage events on Kingman Island, which is located in the Anacostia River in Northeast Washington, D.C. The 145 acre park has hosted the Kingman Island Bluegrass Festival and has several trails open to the public. Recently, Kingman Island has been undergoing major improvements to create more trails and more access to the natural environment for visitors.
“Washington, D.C. has such great green space, and Kingman Island is one of the real hidden gems in our city,” says Union Kitchen co-founder Jonas Singer. “This partnership is great for all involved. By hosting corporate retreats, weddings, family reunions, and other events, Living Classrooms has a chance to gain more supporters and awareness of their amazing work while also informing more local residents about the great natural amenity that is almost literally hiding in our backyard.”
Kingman Island is home to over 100 species of birds, as well as turtles and other wildlife and a wide array of vegetation not seen throughout the rest of the city.
Living Classrooms manages the park and, together with Union Kitchen, aims to further engage the D.C. community by opening the park for private rentals, such as weddings, field days, corporate retreats, and other special events. All of the events will be Green, using compostable paper goods, providing recycling, minimizing use of power and gas, and providing a platform to educate attendees about the work of Living Classrooms on Kingman Island.
Living Classrooms Foundation strengthens communities and inspires young people to achieve their potential through hands-on education and job training, using urban, natural, and maritime resources as “living classrooms.” The partnership will bring more visitors to Kingman Island, of which even many District residents are unaware, while also bringing more attention and support to Living Classrooms.”

“I was walking up 12th Street after getting out of Metro Center and came across these two items sitting next to each other on the sidewalk. As diet relapses go, I don’t think you can get much lower than Hooters Wings…”
Or maybe I should make this a bonus caption contest?
