Thanks to Erin for sharing this absolute awesomeness: “a DC address book from 1896 that my mom had found.

The book has old advertisements and addresses of the “elite residents of Washington” and lists “receiving days” for some homes when visitors were preferred. In the back of the book it lists the names of various club’s members (i.e Cosmos Club members when it was a gentleman’s club, etc).” (more…)

Thanks to the Christensen family for sharing this cool find:

“It’s from a childhood trip they took to DC from Iowa in 1934, and appears to be taken from the Capitol toward Union Station.”

Thanks to Eric for sending this cool find from Petworth: “The quarantine time at home gave me time to search, and I located this 1892 Columbian Half Dollar in a forgotten drawer. I found this digging out a garden in our 1926 Petworth rowhouse about 12 years ago.

These coins were printed in 1892 and 1893 for the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago (aka Chicago World’s Fair), which ‘celebrated’ the 500th anniversary of Columbus’s voyage and discovery.

Not in the best of shape, but 90% silver. Pretty cool. Now I need to go do more yard digging!”

Thanks to John for sending: ” These pics of JFK and RFK have been in my 1937 garage for a long while. Nice piece of 20th century history next to a 21st century electric car charging station.” (more…)

Thanks to Victoria for sending: ” I found this empty can of sardines from the old Sea Lion canning factory in Lubec, Maine, which closed a decade ago. From the look of the closing mechanism I’m guessing it’s from the forties. Neat!”

Thanks to Derrick for sending from his 1927 row house in Trinidad:

“I was renovating the back addition of my house, which was a screen porch, eventually converted to a room. We removed the baseboards and came across these. Baseball card from 1964, a 1930s wheat penny, some child’s drawings, newspapers from the 50’s and a pin for Glen Echo Park. Not sure of date.”
