Today’s excellent FQotD comes from my sister in law: What was your favorite 9:30 Club concert?
Super tough one. I’ve narrowed mine down to Wilco in 2006, MIA in 2007, Drive by Truckers in 2009, Amadou & Mariam in 2012, Sturgill Simpson in 2015 and Thievery Corporation a million years ago, that first Thievery one was so so good.
My deepest regret was not being able to get tickets for the Beastie Boys Rock The Vote concert in 2009. It’s the only time I’ve stood outside trying to get an extra ticket and failed. Still haunts me.
What was your favorite(s)?
Following the news of Bistro Du Coin’s 22nd birthday, Flavio reminds us that yesterday was the 9:30 Club’s 42 birthday!!

Thanks to Pete for sending the news that J Crew is closing in Penn Quarter on January 23rd. They opened here in August 2012. Ed. Note: In October 2021 the Anthropologie closed next door. Updates when we learn what becomes of the spaces.

“You may have heard about our recent policy requiring all patrons to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test. We are expanding on that policy and wanted to make you aware.
Please note that all I.M.P. venues – 9:30 Club, Merriweather Post Pavilion, The Anthem, and Lincoln Theatre – will soon require full vaccination against COVID-19 for entry at all events. Beginning October 17, 2021 and until further notice, only patrons who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will be able to attend events at I.M.P. venues. Exceptions will only be made for children under 12 and those with qualifying medical conditions preventing them from becoming vaccinated. For those patrons, a negative COVID-19 antigen or PCR test taken within 48 hours of the show date will be accepted. (more…)

There’s a show tomorrow at 9:30 I’m really excited about and wanted to share with everyone, I think it could be special– This small band Atlas Road Crew from Charleston, SC that basically calls DC a second home (Their drummer, Patrick Drohan, is from the area). Over the past three years, they’ve grown in venue size from the Fairgrounds, to the Bayou, to selling out Gypsy Sally’s twice, and then selling out the Hamilton this past winter. It’s amazing to see them grow to 9:30, and yes, they get how big of an opportunity headlining the place is! Their sound is rooted in 70s-era southern rock, and luckily don’t get too jammy. Plus the shows are a party. Come out!
