Sad update from City Wildlife:

“Update on Bald Eagle rescued from metro tracks:

After a thorough examination, review of the x-rays, and consultations with other wildlife veterinarians, the opinion of the experts is unanimous and sad: the multiple fractures in the bird’s wing cannot be repaired and humane euthanasia is the only responsible option. We would, of course, had loved to have saved this bird, but the injuries were too severe. (more…)

“I heard this angry straw pile squawking for its mother for a good five minutes before I looked out and saw it on the back of my fence near H Street NE and 12th Street NE. My bird “experts” think it is either a juvenile red tail or a juvenile cooper’s hawk.”
