Thanks to Molly for sending: “The photo is terrible, but my friend and I saw this really cool crow near 10th and Florida. Its not sunlight on the wings, It had black and white feathers! Almost like a Magpie, but I didn’t think Magpies lived around here?”

Thanks to NK for sending us off into the weekend perfectly with this hawk around town. Gonna be quite different from last year I imagine. Have fun and be safe!

Thanks to Ted for sending “We’d spotted this barred owl pair’s roost near Meadowbrook Park a few weeks ago and had been watching them come and go and call to each other in the late afternoon/evening. Last weekend when one adult left the nest a new face appeared: the fledgling! Sorry for the zoomed in phone pics, an adult was perched watching us in the next tree over and I didn’t dare get any closer.”

From the National Mall NPS:

“A North American river otter is a rare sight around the National Mall. Once eliminated from the area, the species is on the road to recovery. Though they are cute & playful, you otter remember that they are wild animals & never get too close.” (more…)
