Was walking through Kalorama with my fiancée and our pug earlier today when we came across a structure I would love to know more about.
Located on Belmont Rd. NW just south of the intersection with Waterside Dr., it’s a big concrete slab with railings all around and a large “cover” of some sort over a big square section. (more…)

This enormous moth passed on to the next life in between our patio sliding screen door and glass door two nights ago. This is just a few blocks from the Petworth Metro. Can one of your readers identify him?
Services are Sunday at the 6th and I Synagogue.”

I don’t know. I saw this in Adams Morgan/Lanier Heights, I believe this is in front of a Bed and Breakfast which is even stranger, anyway I have some thoughts. Dear God do I have some thoughts. But in the interim – caption contest – go!!

“In anticipation of the District of Columbia’s Independence Day celebrations, the Bowser Administration will test the District’s Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) system on Saturday, June 22, 2019, between 11 and 11:30 a.m. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the District’s ability to send information during an emergency to a targeted geographic area – in this case, the National Mall, where most of the July 4 festivities take place. Hi! I think I heard cannons go off in Eastern Market Thursday morning, 11 booms in a steady rhythm. It was around 7:45 or so. Do you know what it was? Maybe practice for the July 4 events? I’ve lived on the Hill for 10 years and I’ve never heard it.”

It was a flyover to demonstrate stealth F-35s for Trump and the President of Poland. Poland is buying some. I also wonder if the military planned the flyover to show Trump that the stealth fighters are not invisible, so that he stops saying that.

BTW, this is the B variant of the F-35, which is particularly suited to make a loud noise over DC for a long time. That’s because it has a horizontal lift fan that allows it to land vertically, like a helicopter — or fly slowly and noisily over a city.
