“Dear PoPville,
Passed by what appears to be Stanley cup on display on Wolfe Street in Old Town Alexandria.
Any idea if this is actually the Stanley Cup and why it’s here?”

“Dear PoPville,
Chimney at the mall? I had not ridden past the African American Museun in a few weeks but this chimney is new — i am not sure that is steam, it looked grey at times.”

Thanks to Erin for sharing this impressive find:
“Ok PoPville what about the last Christmas-branded food on the shelves at Trader Joe’s? 🎄”
What do we think: Super old or Super early on the scene?
Also, what the hell are Christmas Sprinkles?

Thanks to David for the heads up:
“Cell On Wheels Aka a COW has been deployed on 14th next to Le Diplomate (ed. note: at first I thought this was going to be protest related.) This a common way to add extra cellular capacity at crowded events.“

“Dear PoPville,
I saw a dude (not a cop) riding a horse on H and 12th NE last night.”
Thanks to Elliot for sending the photo above: “there are 4 people on horseback riding down h…”
col. also caught them in action in Shaw: “anyone know why there are horses galloping through 7th & RI NW?” (more…)
“Dear PoPville,
Curious if the community knows anything about the elevated tracks that run over First Street NE and the Metropolitan Branch Trail by G Place NE (not G Street!).
It looks like it could be a straightforward extension of Amtrak or CSX tracks, but they dead end into a building that, according to my research, is an unused warehouse. So curious about the history and current usage!“

“Dear PoPville,
I noticed the cameras in the attached photo (above) when I was in an uber headed to Reagan National on 395-S. These are two extremely large, extremely high resolution cameras pointed at the Capitol from a private balcony. They are disguised as plants.
So, so, so weird.”

“Dear PoPville,
It sounded like two explosions, one small and then big. It was very loud and sounded like it was around Dupont, but people as far away as Chevy Chase heard it around 9:30pm. There has been zero in the news media. I am still wondering what it was.”
Peter also reported just after 9:30pm last night:
“Five minutes ago, heard what sounded like a cannon going off near 14th and W NW”
As we approach fireworks season, I’m wondering if those super loud M80 type dynamite detonations have started early? We get reports of mysterious explosions every summer like clockwork.

Sofia asks last night: “what is this?! Spotted in Rock Creek today.”
While a jarring sight for sure, fear not – it’s just DC Water testing!
During a previous sighting DC Water has explained to us: (more…)
