I normally don’t pick homes outside of DC proper but after looking at the virtual tour I have to say it is one of the more unusual I’ve ever seen. I thought you guys would like it too. Thanks to a reader for sending.

So do you think $895,000 sounds reasonable for this 2 bed/2 bath cabin in Chevy Chase, MD?

From MPD:

Yesterday afternoon, an elderly female resident received a knock on her door from a male subject who offered to remove snow/ice from the front of her property. The resident took the subject up on his offer and at some point, the subject was given the keys to the resident’s car to assist with retrieving recently purchased grocery items. The subject did in fact remove the snow/ice, but he also stole the elderly resident’s vehicle. Thanks to Ofc. Westbrook for responding to the call and getting a lookout broadcast for the resident’s vehicle and to Officer Matos who spotted the vehicle and made the apprehension of the male subject who was placed under arrest. Remember to lookout for our elderly residents and those who may need assistance with snow removal during the winter season. Thanks.

and in other car theft related news, don’t leave your unlocked cars running to warm up:

PSA 201 had 2 cars stolen last night. I have received reports that a group of 3 males were seen riding around in a silver BMW yesterday during the evening hours looking at cars. One of the vehicles that was stolen had been left running by the owner (warming up). One of the males from the suspected BMW jumped in the unoccupied car and stole it.

Please make sure that when warming your vehicle during these colder months that you still lock the doors (keeping an extra key). During this time of year, perpetrators ride around looking for cars that are idling and unoccupied. This makes for an easy theft.

“Dear PoP,

I live in a Petworth townhouse. The past few weeks, a strong odor of tobacco smoke has been wafting into my house from the neighbor’s. It’s unbearable. I’m surprised that this much smoke odor could waft through solid brick walls! Thought I’d ask other Wardmanistanis if they have had the same problem and have an idea of how the smoke might be coming through the walls and how I can stop it.”

We spoke a bit about this issue with smoke leaking into apartments. For those who live in row houses – have you experienced this problem? If so, what can be done to mitigate the situation?

“Dear PoP,

I live on 14th street in between Shepard and Taylor. My house was broken into on last Saturday afternoon/evening/night. The thief hopped the fence in my backyard, crowbarred open the basement door (which was deadbolted), and stole my bike, a backpack two laptops and some of my wife’s jewelry. He then proceeded to exit right out of our front door! Quite brazen. The cops came but there was nothing they could do. The bike was a Scott grey hybrid. Not very common. I wanted to post this to your blog to see if anyone had spotted the bike, and to warn them to protect themselves against a similar kind of break-in.”

“In 1999, I had just finished a job up on East-West Highway and New Hampshire Avenue when the hit and run happened. I work with my hands and was putting my tools away in the back of my truck. I can’t explain it, but I had this feeling that a car was heading towards me. I guess it was just instinct, but I jumped up in the air. When I came down, I had no legs. A car smashed right into me and took off my legs below the knees. Had I not jumped, the car would have hit me in the mid-section, and I would have died.

“They rushed me to the hospital and tried to save my legs. You know, they were going to make me a midget and throw away the bad parts of my legs and just reattach my feet to my knees. That didn’t work out, so they gave me prosthetics instead. Funny thing about that is I tricked the doctors into giving them to me before I was supposed to get them. I was stuck up in that hospital for so long, and couldn’t stand it no more. I needed to get out and had plans to get married on Hains Point, so I started to do my own kinds of rehabilitation. Most of this stuff is just mental. Once I convinced my brain that my legs were gone, I stopped having the phantom pains and started to learn how to walk on my own. You can be sure, I made it to my wedding. Now that was a beautiful day.

Continues after the jump. (more…)
