“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to let you know that my street (Gales St. NE, one block south of H St. @ Starburst) is police taped off due to an armed person. I asked the cop nearby who told me I could go in my house, but not to go farther because of an armed person on the loose. Only Gales between 15&16 seemed to be taped off, so I’m not sure if he is on the block or what. I ran inside, locked all my doors, got into the basement, etc. but I just wanted to give a heads up to others in the area.”

We haven’t played “painted or natural brick” in a while. This whole row is natural brick except for one in the center that just got painted yellow. A friend mine really likes the yellow. Which do you like better?

Hi PoPville! My name is Julia and I have been in DC for about five years now. The singles scene in DC has certainly been a challenge (ok let’s be honest its abysmal most of the time unless you’re a horny intern)… so here I am.

I am originally from Wrightsville Beach and a lover of all things south eastern North Carolina.. boating, beach bocce and drinking cold beers while boating or playing beach bocce are probably three of my favorite life activities. I am outgoing and I love to be outdoors. I think one of DC’s greatest features is its close proximity to some of the best hikes and running trails I have ever been on. I love being in the sun, but when the cold DC winters descend upon us you can find me drinking happy hour red wine at Proof, cheering for the Tarheels (no Duke graduates/fans need submit responses) and the Redskins (although that has proven to be pretty abysmal too), and praying that the 2 Amy’s line isn’t so long that I have to stand outside to wait. I love exploring all of DC’s neighborhoods, old and new, and I appreciate you for always keeping me in the loop. There is always something new to see and do in this awesome city and I think it would be even better to share those experiences with someone else!

Photos after the jump. (more…)

Asian Bistro is located at 1901 L St NW. Unfortunately there is no Web site or menu available on line (and reviews on Yelp are widely mixed.) Since many of us are huge lovers of Pho, I thought I’d continue Pho week and see if there were any fans here? In addition to the Pho, any fans of the grill offerings?

This home is located at 2220 Q St, NW:

“Dear PoP,

I was jogging down Vermont Avenue just about where it meets 14th street at the Circle and saw an approximately 30-ish year old black guy in a black t shirt and tan pants sprinting like a bat out of hell across the lawn of the red church on the corner. A 20-ish white guy in a white shirt and tie was chasing him. Someone was yelling, “Stop thief!” I chased after both of them, following them into an alley which split into a Y. The business guy went down the alley one way and I went the other. Unfortunately, we lost him at that point. A passing car said they saw him get on the 14th street bus, so we flagged down a cop (someone apparently called the cops), and several cops pulled over the 14th street bus going south. The business guy got on to try to identify him, but he wasn’t on there. At that point, we were saddened to realize he had gotten away and felt badly for the young women whose purse had been stolen.

I’m somewhat dismayed that more people didn’t try to stop him. I also don’t understand why the people in the car didn’t follow the bus.

Would you please ask your readers if they saw a guy fitting that description in the area at that time? He was running like crazy with a purse so he should’ve been sweating like crazy, out of breath and pretty noticeable. I know catching him at this point is nearly impossible. However, it sickens me that these *holes feel entitled to rob people, particularly in broad daylight at rush hour, and they can get away with it!”

I’ve been getting a lot of emails inquiring about shootings last night.

“Dear PoP,

There’s a pretty sizable police presence at Euclid and University (btw 14th and 15th) right now. They have taped off much of the block and there are three or four plain clothes detectives milling about.”

MPD and DCAlerts reported a shooting last night around 1:30am.

According to WJLA:

“Two people have been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in Meridian Hill Park area in Northwest. D.C. police say a person was shot in the 2600 block of 15th Street, near a Howard University dorm, around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. The victim died on the scene.”

There is not a lot info available at the moment but at some point a man was driven to the hospital this morning (presumably to treat a gun shot wound) and casings were found at 9th and Crittenden St, NW. Investigation is ongoing.
