wall crack, originally uploaded by Prince of Petworth.

I’m not sure if this will show up properly in the photo but I have recently seen a gigantic crack in my living room wall. Advice please!

Back in January we had a discussion about Kilroy Cleaners. At the time there was a split between people who were fed up with Kilroy cleaners on Upshur St. and those who wanted to continue supporting them as they are a local neighborhood business. Well, I have noticed on the Petworth Yahoo group that not much has changed. Apparently the service is still terrible. Now, I am dreading dropping off my dry cleaning. It has been since January though so that is not a bad run for avoiding the dry cleaners. Anyway, my question is: clearly their service is terrible and many people have complained, so how come nothing has changed? This, to me, seems like rule number one in running a small business, placate your customers. Didn’t they used to teach – “the customer is always right”? So what the hell is going on here? Recommendations for a good alternative dry cleaner are accepted. I think I may try the new place across from the Giant grocery store.

I can’t vouch for the music but it sounds pretty damn cool. A member of the band, Patrick, writes:

Formed in the dismal and rainy spring of 2007, Ra Ra Rasputin refuse to be bound by the conventions and parochial scene standards that have trapped so many groups in a corner. Rather than stick to one style or sound, Anna, Brock, Ken and Patrick are taking a more adventurous path. You know, a little post-punk scratchiness here, some folkie moaning there, a little Afro-Cuban funkiness and just the right hint of pop friendliness. Armed with a keen sense of style and poise, Ra Ra Rasputin hope to remind Washingtonians that seeing a band play is a novel and exciting experience.
Besides, it beats sitting around at another second rate DJ night, doesn’t it?

The Husbands are a punk-folk duo that write songs in the spirit of shoegaze and neo-psychadelic bands of yesteryear. Some similar bands are: Beat Happening, Mazzy Star, Lou Reed and the Velvets, the Primitives, Velocity Girl.
They are Haley Baptiste and Andrew Bucket. Their first E.P is called Shoes and it cost absolutely nothing to record.

No I have not contracted small pox or the plague. This is my arm after 15 minutes watering my garden this morning. Boy, were the mosquitos thankful for this mistake. Be warned.

This is either really good news or really bad news depending on your perspective. Thanks to the tipster who emailed me this message, I am forever in your debt. Despite the grammatical errors, can this be for real? Mom, for the love of God, please stop reading. Now, I don’t like to judge but you have to admit $5 does seem like a very reasonable price given all the sex plus free mixed drinks! I have redacted the message a bit in case it is a hoax. Below you can find the message from the Petworth listserve:

“Hello you all,

Someone told me about this “sex party”. I was able to get on their mailing list. Apparently, this Mike Mike person has these parties at a few diffenent places in DC. Is this not against the law? I mean, unprotected sex parties is certainly a public health issue. How do I stop this from happening?

Sincerely,

BBC reports that “a Greek policeman has been arrested after allegedly shooting a man who had double-parked his car to buy breakfast.” Petworthians would be in a lot of trouble if that ever caught on here. Ugh, I can’t even joke about it, we have enough violence already. Another good find by DCist.

WTOP asks: How would you like a zero commute?

An excerpt:
Jair Lynch, CEO of Jair Lynch Companies, received approval to build the 60,700 square-foot building, located on the corner of 14th Street and Florida Avenue in Northwest.

“We say very simply that you can work smarter, live better and own it all,” Lynch says. “We recognize that there is a desperate need for live/work, flexible home spaces, and a place where we can have a zero commute.”

To that I would add you can live/work and eat delicious Papusas all in one place.

Today I drove by a car that was double parked in front of an empty spot. An empty spot! How lazy do you have to be not even to pull into a spot that is open? It never ceases to amaze.
