A reader reports:
“Looks like street car clipped the mirron on an ambulance at 14th & H. I don’t see any reason to have that lane at a standstill. Just have the cops take the info, and move on and take the car out of service.”
Not clear when the new vehicles will go into passenger service. I believe they are still only in testing mode…
A reader reports just before noon from H Street between 3rd and 4th in the eastbound lanes:
“Totally took out the streetcar stop”
Update:
James reports:
“About 2 hours ago, a Megabus headed eastbound on H completely destroyed the 3rd and H st streetcar stop. He must have somehow jumped and ridden the crub. Hard to tell if there were any injuries. I don’t think anyone was at the stop. There is glass and debris everywhere (looks like it shaved off the edge of the curb). This is directly in front of the construction site that collapsed earlier this week. Would have been scary to have been in at the front of the upper deck. Check where the front glass shattered due to the stop overhang.”
UPDATE: Accident: 300 H Street, NE. The E/B & W/B 300 Block of H Street, NE is now CLOSED. Follow Police direction

From DC Streetcar:
“It’s our anniversary! Thank you for the support during the first year of passenger service.”
Also during Streetcar’s first year of service – Donald Trump was elected President. Metro service has shit the bed to an extent even some pessimists couldn’t have imagined. Prince and David Bowie died. Argonaut and Millie & Al’s closed…
Thanks to Chuck for sending around 2pm.
A reader reports:
“A car ran up on the streetcar tracks on Hopscotch Bridge. Saw this at around 4am this morning. It looked like the airbag deployed.”
From DDOT:
“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) along with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) invite the community to a public meeting Thursday, November 17, 2016, to discuss the proposed Union Station to Georgetown Streetcar Environmental Assessment (EA). This EA considers alternative approaches to extending the existing streetcar line from Union Station to Georgetown and will evaluate the environmental and cultural effects of the proposed improvements.
This meeting will be focused on the west end of the study area, specifically the West End, Foggy Bottom, and Georgetown neighborhoods, from K Street NW at 20th Street to Lower K Street at Wisconsin Avenue. Read More
Feels like just yesterday it was ChooChoo7 but it’ll soon be six months!
From DDOT:
“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) today announced the DC Streetcar will begin Sunday service September 18, the day after the 11th annual H Street Festival.
This announcement comes as the DC Streetcar marks its six-month milestone this weekend, Saturday, August 27. The system began passenger service February 27 with more than 8,100 people joining Mayor Muriel Bowser for the inaugural ride on the new system. The start of passenger service marked the return of streetcars to the District for the first time since 1962. Read More
OK, maybe the project took way too long to carry passengers. Maybe it cost way too much money for what we got. Maybe it is beyond comprehension that it doesn’t run on Sundays. We can debate whether or not there should’ve been a dedicated lane but I’m moving beyond that. This is not the fault of the streetcar. This is the fault of the driver of the automobile. Shame on you Scion driver. Shame on you. The world does not revolve around you. You can’t just double park because you’re only going to run into the store “for a second”. No. No sir. NO MORE. Move your damn car and find a spot like everyone else. This nominee was at 4th and H St, NE – the streetcar didn’t catch up to me until 13th Street.
And by the by, this applies to all people double parking on busy streets with or without streetcars, especially during rush hour. I’m talking Georgia Avenue, Connecticut Avenue, you know who you are. I repeat, the world does not revolve around you and your schedule. Move your damn car.
Should you spot a selfish jackwagon double parked in front of a streetcar, or during rush hour please send a photo to [email protected] with a location/time where you saw it. If it turns out there was a life threatening emergency or a baby was being born I promise to offer up a prompt apology.
A reader sends from 7th and H Street, NE.
