“After Deadly Midair Collision Near DCA, Norton Urges DoD to Permanently Cease Helicopter Flights of Most VIPs in NCR”

“After the midair collision near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) that killed 67 people, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) wrote Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth urging the Department of Defense (DoD) to permanently cease transporting VIPs in the National Capital Region (NCR) by helicopter, with exceptions for the president, vice president and in national emergencies.

“The convenience of government officials should not take precedence over aviation safety and the quiet enjoyment of residents of the NCR,” Norton wrote.

Pedestrian walking on the sidewalk (5:05pm), struck from behind by driver of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), resulted in severe injuries.

“The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a traffic crash that resulted in severe injuries of a pedestrian in Northeast.

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, at approximately 5:05 p.m., an adult male was walking westbound, on the north sidewalk, in the 600 block of Michigan Avenue, Northeast, when he was struck from behind by an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) operated by an unknown male suspect. The ATV was using the sidewalk to travel and after striking the pedestrian the driver fled the scene on the ATV. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital by DC Fire and EMS and is being treated for life-threatening injuries. (more…)

Heads Up – “Weekend trackwork: Buses replace trains on portions of Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines”

“Metro has trackwork on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and adjusted service hours on Monday due to the Presidents’ Day holiday.

On Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, the Blue Line will operate Franconia-Springfield to Greenbelt. There will be no Blue Line service from Pentagon to Downtown Largo.

The Orange Line will operate in two segments between Vienna and Clarendon and Foggy Bottom and New Carrolton.

The Silver Line will operate in two segments between Ashburn and Clarendon and Foggy Bottom and Downtown Largo due to track maintenance. (more…)
