“Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of September 19-21 with service adjustments beginning at 10 p.m. Friday night and continuing through system closing on Sunday.

Silver and Yellow line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals (Yellow Line trains will run between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Sq only). Green Line trains will run every 20 minutes, and Orange and Blue line trains will run every 24 minutes. Red Line trains will operate every 15 minutes with additional trains between Grosvenor and NoMa-Gallaudet during daytime hours. (more…)

Metro to host public hearings on proposed Metrobus service changes

“Metro will host a series of public hearings between September 15 and October 2 to solicit input on proposed bus service changes that will enhance service for many customers. The Metrobus service adjustments are designed to increase overall on-time performance and customer satisfaction, while helping to increase ridership and improve cost efficiency.

The current proposal includes input gathered through service evaluation, priority corridor studies, customer surveys, and feedback from customers and the jurisdictions. Customer input through public hearings will help shape the final plan before it is implemented.

The public hearings will be preceded by an Open House period that will begin at 6:00 p.m., and the formal Public Hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Public Hearing portion of the sessions will provide an opportunity for comment on the docket of proposed Metrobus service changes. All service change proposals in the docket are eligible for comment at any of the six Hearing locations.

What the… Prostitution on the 64 Bus?

“Yesterday I got on the 64 at Georgia and New Hampshire going North. The bus was mostly empty and I sat in front of an man in his 50′s. A woman sat next to him and before I knew it she said it would cost $20. He negotiated it down to $15. I got off the bus before they did so I don’t know if they got off together. I mentioned this to my father and he said that he has also been approached on the bus.”

Early Opening Sunday morning for the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon
Metrorail will open at 6 a.m. on Sunday, September 14 for customers traveling to the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon. The closest Metro stop to the start of the race is Smithsonian Station (Blue/Orange/Silver lines). (more…)

“Pay for Metro with your smartphone or watch? Testing starts soon.” 10 Metro Test Stations including Gallery Place and Navy Yard beginning in Jan.

“Metro is planning a pilot program to test new fare technology and fare gates to allow riders to pay for their trip in new ways, including next-generation smartphones, NFC-enabled watch, contactless credit and debit cards, Federal ID cards and more.

On Thursday, Metro will announce a pilot program to test the new technology at 10 Metrorail stations, six Metrobus routes and two parking facilities, beginning in January.

The 10 Metrorail stations selected for the pilot are: Shady Grove, Eisenhower Avenue, Bethesda, Pentagon City, Pentagon, Ballston, Gallery Place (7th & F), Farragut West, Navy Yard and Suitland. In addition, parking facilities at Shady Grove and Suitland will be included in the pilot. (more…)

“Major Road Closure Within the District of Columbia with Regional Implications”

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will be implementing daytime lane closures on H Street NW and Massachusetts Avenue NW, between 2nd and 4th Streets NW, starting on Monday, September 8, 2014. The lane closures will continue to take place on a daily basis, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

This important utility relocation and upgrade project will be under construction until end of 2016, and traffic impacts will be 6 days per week for the duration of the project. The current phase of related work—which involves upgrading and installing new underground utilities and restoring the roadway along these two corridors—is expected to last for approximately 18-24 months, weather permitting. Blue and Yellow line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals (Yellow Line trains will run between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Sq only). Green Line trains will operate every 16 minutes and Red, Orange and Silver line trains will operate every 15 minutes with additional Red Line trains between Grosvenor and NoMa-Gallaudet during daytime hours.

Red Line
Trains every 8-15 minutes

Red Line trains will operate as follows throughout the weekend:

Between Shady Grove & Glenmont: every 15 minutes
Between Grosvenor & NoMa-Gallaudet: every 8-10 minutes Saturday and Sunday from 9AM-9PM only

Work Performed: Light pole installation between NoMa-Gallaudet and Rhode Island Ave. On Saturday and Sunday, Metro will continue railcar testing and acceptance of the new fleet of 7000-series railcars between Twinbrook and Shady Grove. (more…)
