“Here’s the usual flight patterns for DCA. While most are north and south, you’ll see the flights going over the Anacostia.” via Melpomene Wetzlar
Johnny asks: “has anyone else living in SW also experienced an increase in noise coming from planes departing DCA lately the past few months?”
Melpomene Wetzlar replies: “There are more flights now since the COVID shutdown. Almost back to normal. The flight paths have not changed. Flights going to Boston,Newark,JFK, Providence, etc fly over the Anacostia. Flying over water plus cold weather & clouds will cause louder noises.”

More incentive to get through the new security checkpoints early. Thanks to James for sending: “Looks like a new outpost of Timber Pizza is in the works in the new concourse at DCA!”

Thanks to Commissioner Farnan for reporting this morning:
“Good morning from DCA! Dunkin’ Donuts line longer than TSA. If you have pre-check, you’re golden. If you don’t, you’re still looking at max 30 min security line. Safe travels!!!”

“zero line in Terminal A at 7:06 AM Monday 11/22”
Reader says: “DCA airport security was a breeze this morning with clear”
“Was a nightmare at 5 AM on Saturday. Pre check was wrapped around into the entry concourse”

And in conclusion – ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Safe travels to all!

RPDC writes around 7am: “Sometimes even the early bird doesn’t get a break. Long lines at new @Reagan_Airport TSA security checkpoints.”
G writes at 6:30am: “not a surprise but DCA is once again a shitshow and has been since 5 am. LONG lines.
Missed my flight”

G writes us: “DCA line this Morning, out the door for terminal A. if you have a flight coming up soon, come very early.”
On Wednesday we got a DCA PSA about long security lines at the airport. Update: They’re apparently getting longer. So keep in mind as we get closer to Thanksgiving travel (we did a poll showing almost 60% of respondents would be traveling this year, obviously not all by air but still.)

Martha writes us earlier this morning: “Advice to holiday revelers, traveling through DCA: allow yourself extra time. There’s quite a bit of construction here and the security lines are longer than I thought they’d be at this early hour! Pre-check was faster – but still more people than I thought would be in line at 5:30 a.m.!”
Incidentally – are many folks headed out of town this year? If so, when are you leaving? Coming back? Safe travels to all who are!
