Have I mentioned how awesome it is taking the Green line to the new Nationals Stadium? It takes like 20 minutes from the Petworth metro. Unbelievably cool. From a reader:

Don’t ask me how, but I somehow finagled my way into a VIP tour of the stadium today. Although it was pretty funny with me wearing a bright red flannel shirt surrounded by suits that cost more than my car. Anyway, it was pretty fresh. Now, I consider myself a pretty big Nats fan but growing up in New York, going to Yankees games, I would get goose bumps, and still do, whenever I walk into the stadium. I did not get any goose bumps in this new stadium. However, it is crisp and plenty beautiful. I got to visit the club house and locker room (unfortunately no pictures were allowed there.) I also got to walk through the bullpen and onto the field past the dugout all the way to home plate. And all I can say is, I am psyched for the season to start. The grass itself was incredible. It is Kentucky something or other and cost $1.7 million or something like that. The big screen tv above center field is truly gigantic. There was still a bit of final touches going on, you can see from the photo that they were still working on the pitching mound. I couldn’t find a Ben’s Chili Bowl sign but there were lots of other interesting food options (all oddly with goofy names like Senators Sausages and names like that.) There is one thing especially awesome about this stadium for us. It is on the Green Line! It is so easy to get here. It took me like 20 minutes to get to the stadium. Beautiful. It may be too late for me, but hopefully one day a future son of mine will get goosebumps upon entering. See lots more photos after the jump. (more…)
While I’m a Jets fan, I do respect the grit and tenacity of this courageous team.
This kid was phenomenal. He kept doing this trick where he flipped his board and twisted it around like 720 degrees and landed perfectly back on it only moving a few feet. It was amazing. Unfortunately my photography skills are far inferior to his skateboarding skills and I was unable to capture him mid air, even though I asked him to do it like 12 times. Dang, if he didn’t land it perfectly all 12 times. Anyway, I’ve noticed tons of skateboarders around town. I know people here feel strongly about bike riders and sharing the sidewalk so what are your thoughts on the skateboarders?

Why are there so many Cowboys fans in DC? One thing I’ve always liked about DC is how the whole city rallies around the Redskins. I’ve always found it odd that there are so many fans of the Redskins rivals in DC. Any explanations?
Pretty sweet, huh? David Beckham is behind that wall of photographers. And mind you he wasn’t even in the game yet at that point, he was just warming up on the sidelines. Happens to me all the time.
I started my day sorely dissapointed because my tennis match had fallen through and it was such a beautiful day. So I decided to take another walkabout. What a great decision that was. I encountered another beautiful DC phenomena. There are a series of “semi-pro” soccer matches that take place all over the city. I was stumbling along 13th Street when I ran into this one at Cardoza High School on 13th and Florida, NW. Now, I love soccer but this, like the papuseria, was like visiting another country. I had encountered an El Salvadorian soccer league. There is a $5 dollar entry fee but the kind gentleman allowed me to enter without charge. He must have been fan of PoP. At any rate this league features 16 teams and they play every Sunday at Cardoza. Which is fitting because they certainly weren’t Olympique de Marseille. But they did have an awful lot of heart. Plus there were two refs to make it very professional. The match that I saw pitted River vs Alianza. Spanish was spoken freely and there was also El Salvadorian delicacies available for purchase. Once again, it was like entering another country and it was fantastic. The players come from all over DC and I’d say there were about 100 people viewing the game from the stands. I saw more injuries than beautiful passes but there were moments of brilliance for sure. So if you like soccer or are just looking for something new to do I can guarantee you this is worth $5. And in the end River defeated Alianza 1-0.
