On June 4 Open Streets will be coming to 7th Street NW, one of the six Open Streets events the D.C. government is planning throughout the city this year.

During this event, the District will close almost 2 miles of 7th Street — from Florida Avenue NW to Pennsylvania Avenue NW — to all motor vehicles.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the corridor will be open to everyone to traverse by foot, bike, scooter, skates, or skateboard. D.C. residents and visitors will have multiple opportunities to support local businesses and participate in a range of activities as well as educational and entertainment programming, including an AwesomeCon-sponsored Silent Disco next to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Many local fitness and yoga studios will be holding demonstrations, several businesses are offering deals, and the Open Streets main stage, located near 7th and F, will feature amazing local acts. Lime Scooters is also sponsoring a Virtual Reality activation.

Open Streets is presented by Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District Department of Transportation. The DowntownDC Business Improvement District is the nonprofit partner supporting event planning and implementation.

This idea seems so obvious (and so needed!) we’re wondering why someone hasn’t done this sooner. New local business CarCare To Go makes getting your car repaired or maintained as easy as ordering groceries online. It’s celebrity-level service at civilian prices.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Schedule online whatever service you need for any kind of car.
  2. Their valet comes and picks it up at your house or office and brings it to their full-service shop.
  3. They communicate via video and photos so you get to see — and approve all work.
  4. The valet returns it to you. The valet is free as is a light clean with every appointment.

To top it all off, they are offering a crazy deal for first-time clients: $20.22 for an oil change. No catch. Seriously. It even covers synthetic oil. Use coupon code FIRST20 when you book.

Sounds too good to be true. But with an average rating over 5.0 stars and hundreds of raving customer reviews, this looks to be the real deal.

You’ll wonder why you ever took care of your car any other way. Learn more here.

Summer is just about here in D.C.

Soon, it’ll be time to hit up splash parks with the kids, rent kayaks, attend outdoor concerts and movies, eat too much ice cream, plan a weekend beach trip — and get your home professionally cleaned.

Sure, everyone talks about spring cleaning, but summer cleaning is just as essential. After all, the kids are on break, friends and family come into town, and many of us are taking shelter in the A/C.

If you need a hand, reach out to Well-Paid Maids, the only living-wage home cleaning company in the D.C. area. Employees at Well-Paid Maids get:

  • At least $22 an hour
  • 22 paid days off per year
  • Employer-paid commuting
  • And more.

For context, this pay — and these benefits — is unheard of in this industry. But that’s exactly what founder Aaron Seyedian wants to prove: You can pay your employees a living wage and be a successful business.

Theater Alliance’s dark comedy, Do You Feel Anger?, captures the office environment at its most absurd.

One coworker who keeps getting mugged down the hall. Another behaves like an actual baby. And somehow, everyone thinks “empathy” is a type of bird.

Despite all of this, Sofia, played by Maria Simpkins, has been hired to disrupt the toxicity of this office environment. But who is most likely to change — the office, or her?

Whether you’re already back to your office routine or still working from home, most D.C.-area professionals will find morsels of this workplace comedy that make them laugh — or shudder in horror.

The all-star cast of Maria Simpkins, Nicklas Aliff, Marissa Liotta, Melissa Carter, Shaq Stewart and James Whalen is directed by Kelly Colburn.

Do You Feel Anger? by Mara Nelson-Greenberg performs through June 11 at the Anacostia Playhouse. Use special code ANGER at checkout for 20% off all tickets.
