So on Saturday when I’m returning from my walkabout I start to hear music as I’m walking north on New Hampshire up to the Petworth metro station. I then see some balloons and become very curious. It turns out to be an Obama rally – Petworth style. So check out the video above for how we rally in Petworth. In case you can’t make it out he is singing “We gonna Barack the vote, we gonna Barack the vote!”. Awesome. Now check out the only Hillary supporters I encountered all weekend. And I must have walked easily 6 miles or so.

The really funny thing about this encounter was when I explained to her that I run a neighborhood blog she got very excited and asked if I’d thought about endorsing a candidate. Well, Clinton nor Obama nor Edwards will return my phone calls so I’m not yet ready to make an endorsement.
But seriously it would be nice if we heard some of the candidates talk about solutions for problems in our urban areas. I’m not saying they should talk about it as much as the economy or Iraq or, er, Ethanol…but as an urban dweller I appreciate a little pandering, I’m just saying…

I don’t recall if we’ve actually discussed the upcoming Supreme Court Case on the legality of DC handgun ban. Have we? If the gun ban is overruled do you think crime will increase, decrease or it will have no effect? Personally, I’m an avid skeet shooter and gun enthusiast but I’m a little concerned that more guns may flood our streets. So what do you guys think?

Council Member Muriel Bowser was kind enough to speak with me about some of the issues she has been working on since taking office. I have to say when I left the meeting I was feeling extremely optimistic and I was reassured that Petworth has a genuine advocate looking out for us. One of the most exciting things I learned was that Bowser is working with the people from Safeway in order to make sure they renovate their property on Georgia Ave. Additionally, I was encouraged to learn that Bowser has been in close contact with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fourth District Commander to ensure that the recent spate of muggings near the metro are properly addressed. And finally I was glad to learn that the proposed homeless shelter move to Georgia Ave. is far from a done deal and a zoning meeting is set to address this very issue. Everyone knows my opinion on this matter but this one made me laugh. On a number of garbage cans in Petworth, Columbia Heights and down 14th St. you can see this statement. Could it surpass the legend of Borf?
