Thanks to a reader for alerting me. I’m not sure if the wall won or the car won. I’m guessing the wall won despite some cosmetic injuries.

A reader is interested in setting up an “orange hat” patrol around the Petworth Metro to try and deter future muggings.

She writes: “I’m getting a little frustrated with the inability of the police to, well, police New Hampshire avenue. A few weeks ago, after lurking through yet another debate on the Petworth mailing list about yet another mugging, I posted about the possibility of starting up an orange hat brigade to walk the Metro-up-New-Hampshire corridor, and got a few
responses but not an overwhelming number. This doesn’t have to be a lifetime committment: it seems like trying
to do this for a month could have real impact.”

If you’d be interested email Lisa at [email protected]

Ed note: I’m not sure if you’ll actually be issued an orange hat but I think it is a great idea.  I would suggest that you try to coordinate with MPD though.

Thanks to a reader for this tip. There has been a rumor for a number of months now that an Ethiopian Restaurant is coming to Georgia Ave. This place is on the corner of Georgia and Allison. Obviously it is not open yet but I looked through the window and it definitely looks like it is going to be a restaurant. I look forward to checking it out. Can anyone confirm this?

A taste:

“This Northwest D.C. neighborhood’s increasing residential and retail projects are sparking renewed interest among home-buyers. Multi-story loft and condo buildings are being built within walking distance of the Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro station, making the area much more enticing for young professionals.”

Dear PoP,

Since this will be my first Halloween in the neighborhood, I was wondering if you could provide some advice on providing candy to trick-or-treaters. Do kids trick-or-treat in Petworth/Columbia Heights?

Thanks!

First Timer

Dear First Timer,
Hell yes they do! Our cousin to the east, Frozen Tropics, wrote a pretty good post on this topic that is worth checking out.

I can assure you that the kids of Petworth/Columbia Heights trick or treat with gusto! Honest to God you will see some of the cutest kids on the face of the earth. It is true not all will be wearing costumes but who cares?! Buy plenty of candy and be especially prepared during the hours of 6-8pm. In the past I haven’t witnessed any destruction at all (knock wood). This is a great time to become a part of the community. Enjoy!

Anyone been to the Rib Pit on upper 14th St. I’m encouraged by all the wood in the window…

Eat More Fried Chicken, I still think that is the best name for a restaurant, has a new menu out front. It reminds me of visit to Japan where you just point to the item you’d like. In this case I’d point to all of them based on the photos.
