Thanks to Jaime for letting me share the photos he took of his home renovations. He writes:

“The last 7 pictures are the “after” ones. Before that are some of the house in the process of being sanded, and at the top of the set are pictures I took before I bought it, showing the original floors. The work was done by Universal Floors and cost about $3,000 for everything. It took them about three and a half days from start to finish to do the work.”

I think it came out great!

The Socialist bookstore (I think it was called Pathfinder) located on Georgia Ave just north of the Petworth metro has moved and a new bookstore is coming to the spot. Has anyone ever heard of Sisterspace? Ah, here’s their Web site.

It seems those wreaths are seriously well guarded so it looks like they’ll have many more months of glory…

Back in Nov. ’07 we learned that the Lagos Cafe was set to come to 826 Shepherd Street, NW. Alas there was little progress. It’s possible I just never noticed this before but I just looked inside and the place is painted and built out:

So perhaps, it’s finally close to coming? Anyone know about this?

And the building at 1333 14th Street, NW has been completed. It will be the new home of a web design company, fathomcreative:

Before the building was renovated, while in a very sad state, the brick was red. Do you prefer natural red brick or the way it looks now?

“Dear PoP,

I got home to 3rd and Allison NW yesterday around 12 or 12:30am, and as I drove south down New Hampshire I saw a bunch of police cars and trucks on NH and 4th, on both the north and south sides of Allison. Then around 12:30 or 1am, they all came right in front of my house and some went down the alley right there. They said 3 juveniles carjacked a car from a woman and they thought they were hiding in the alley so they were getting dogs. The police were also looking in trash cans – I don’t know if for a weapon or for kids. There was a helicopter search too.”

Thanks to Council Member Bowser for providing the following info from MPD. And congrats to MPD for making quick arrests.

“At approximately 12:00 AM Fourth District Officers responded to the 700 block of Webster Street NW for a carjacking. Minutes later officers observed the vehicle occupied on 4th Street NW. The suspects bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Fourth District Officers pursued and made two apprehensions. An outstanding job by all personnel.”

OK, we’ve known each other a long time now, right? I’ve rarely steered you wrong so you’re gonna have to trust me on this one. I was not able to get the owners on record as of yet but I have it from an extremely good source that there is a new bar opening right next door to Looking Glass Lounge at 3632 Georgia Ave. My source tells me it is very likely the space may compose the store fronts from 3628 (where Michael Brown had a campaign office) all the way to 3632 Georgia Ave. There will definitely be at least one new bar opening very soon. The owners are certainly people that you will recognize (not the Thievery Corp. Folks). But I think you’ll be pretty excited to have some more life on this strip of Georgia. I’m sorry I can’t share more info at the moment but promise to do so as soon as I’m given permission. I thought you’d like to know about this imminent development though. For it is very good news, in my opinion…

There is a whole new row of trees going in behind the Petworth metro. There is other landscaping on the side which also looks good.

Speaking of trees I received a number of emails about trouble with the new trees going into the New Hampshire Ave medians. Apparently the median is not deep enough to support trees and DDOT is not being helpful in correcting the situation. Rather than post the same thing twice – you can find out how to help at Petworth News.

While you are at PN you can also find out how to ensure the YES! Organic Market gets a beer and wine license.

This home is located at 4225 8th Street, NW:

More info and photos found here.

I remember looking at these homes when they first were renovated. I think this whole section of 8th Street, NW was renovated by the same group. As I’m dealing with some house issues right now (more on that later) I’m starting to get envious of these renovated ones. This unit is going for $413,900. Unit 1 is going for $388,000. Do you think unit 2 is worth around $25k more than #1? Do you like the renovation?
