From a press release:

“Capture DC Life, an engaging short film contest and viewing event designed to call attention to the visual excitement of the city, is now accepting submissions at www.CaptureDCLife.com through Friday, September 25. The winning films will have their world debut at a premiere party October 8 celebrating the official grand opening of Park Place Apartments at Petworth Metro.

The short films should depict an aspect of life in the Washington, D.C., area as seen through the lens of the filmmaker.

Sponsored by the new Park Place Apartments at Petworth Metro, DC Short Films Festival, On Tap magazine, Ketel One and Stella Artois, the Capture DC Life film contest will award a $1,000 grand prize, a $500 runner-up check, and a special people’s choice prize.

The winners of the Capture DC Life short film contest will be announced the evening of Thursday, October 8, as the highlight of the rooftop terrace grand opening party for Park Place Apartments at Petworth Metro — a 161-unit apartment building located within walking distance from Columbia Heights at 850 Quincy Street, NW.

“We believe that the Capture DC Life film contest will showcase many of the unique and bold aspects we’ve strived for with this project, and that presenting diverse views of DC lifestyle is the perfect match for celebrating the official opening of Park Place Apartments,” said Chris Donatelli, president of Donatelli Development, the Bethesda-based developers of the property, which is managed by Bozzuto Management.

“The apartments represent transit-oriented development at its best, with direct access to Metro and dynamic interiors that reflect the excitement and renewed energy that are the foundation of what is happening in the DC and Petworth neighborhood,” he added.

Capture DC Life film contest guidelines, as well as details on how to RSVP for the October 8 Grand Opening Premiere of Park Place Apartments at Petworth Metro, are immediately available at www.CaptureDCLife.com.”

One of my favorite things about living in Cleveland Park, back in the day, was going to the semi-annual CP Library Book Sale. I am delighted to announce that the Petworth Library will have its very own sale this Saturday. I hear there are “tons of good books” so I am eager to check it out. Hopefully I’ll be able to pick up some of these great recommendations.

Busy night in Petworth. From Council Member Bowser:

“Neighbors- I regret to inform you that MPD is investigating multiple shots fired in the 700 Block of Shepherd St NW at approx 8:30 pm. No one was injured. There was damage to property. MPD will release details as they are available.”

UPDATE: MPD CMDR Brown writes in an email, “After investigating this last further last night, this gunfire was the result of a domestic situation between a girlfriend, her old and new boyfriend. We have a witness and hopefully that witness will provide the necessary information to close this case.”

And more detail regarding the Allison St. activity:

“Several shots were fired at a vehicle being occupied by a male subject in 700 Block of Sheperd ST NW at approx 8:30 pm who fled the area… this vehicle was observed by MPD who attempted to stop it in the 500 blk of Allison ST – at which time the driver bailed out — the passenger was interviewed who reported to MPD that they were shot at by a b/male, a former boyfriend… not a random act and not gang related.”

Big DCFD turnout on this one. Lots of smoke out the window of a rowhouse. It doesn’t appear there were any injuries but will update as more details become available. Emergency vehicles responded approximately 10pm Tues. evening.

“Dear PoP,

While we were all sleeping in [Monday] morning, the Donna Ventura reality show came to Grant Circle. http://www.donnavventura.com/eng/ has a gaggle of leggy girls competing to be travel reporters, and this morning they were circling the Circle looking for a good camera angle to do “field reporting”.

Wayan”

Has anyone ever heard of Donna Ventura reality show before? Thanks to Wayan for sending. Their video is hilarious:

So do you think this is a “drop dead renovation”? Does $599,000 sound reasonable for this 4 bed/3.5 bath home?

I’ve gotten tons of emails asking me why I haven’t posted photos of the new YES! Organic Market located at the corner of Georgia Ave and Taylor. I simply hadn’t had a chance to stop by yet. But I remedied that and you guys are right, this place is amazing! First of all the place was much bigger than I thought. And I’ll echo what a lot of folks said, it is such a pleasure to have a nice clean spot like this and also the folks working there were beyond nice. I ran into the owner, Mr. Cha, who wanted to thank the community for their support.

I was particularly impressed with the beer selection…

On a side note, I mentioned previously that I recently sold my car. Well, to go grocery shopping I bought a granny cart. It is amazing to me that overnight I’ve turned into an 80 year old Jewish guy from the lower East Side with this cart. But I’ve decided to embrace it.

Lots more photos of inside the YES! after the jump. (more…)

I’ve always liked this building, I think I’ve posted the door before. The condo looks like it is on the ground floor or garden level. Do you think $395,000 sounds reasonable for this 2 bed/2 bath?
