3910 Georgia Ave., NW Sept. ’08 One of Georgia Avenue’s many retail teases…

“Dear PoP,

I am closing on a house on 4th Street in Petworth on January 25th. I have been doing some research on the area and it doesn’t seem like there are many fitness/gym options in the area for me within walking distance. I used to live in Columbia Heights and there is a decent WSC there, but is that the only option I have? Is there anything planned in the future in the Petworth community?”

Back, back in the day we were told that a Results Gym was going to come to Georgia Ave in the new building at 3910 Georgia Ave, NW across from Qualia Coffee. That deal fell through and a clinic/school is coming in its place. I haven’t heard anything else about a new gym. I assume many use the WSC in Columbia Heights or places near their work. Any Petworth area gyms that I’m not aware of?

We looked at some city wide gym recommendations here and here.

From the Food Network:

Renaissance woman Gillian Clark is a woman of many interests, but it’s her golden Fried Chicken recipe that she serves out of her Silver Spring, Maryland restaurant ‘The General Store and Post Office Tavern,” that has guests heading in from all over for a taste of this home fried delicacy. The heat is on! Will Bobby finally win a Fried Chicken Throwdown or will he be fried? Can this battle be put to bed once and for all? Only one way to find out – a Fried Chicken Throwdown!

Program airs Jan. 19th at 8:30pm.

And in other Chef Gillian Clark news – she has set up a Web site for her most recently announced restaurant – Kitchen on K Street – to be located at 250 K Street NE in NoMa.

“Dear PoP,

I am the organizer for the DC Grey Farmers Market which is sponsored by Grey DC . We are planning our first ever market and the event will be taking place in Petworth!

We are looking for small food vendors who would like to sell food that they have made or grown.”

Their Web site says:

“A grey market, also known as parallel market, is the trade of a commodity through distribution channels which, while legal, are unofficial, unauthorized, or unintended by the original manufacturer.”

You can find more info here. Anyone ever heard of a grey market before? Think this is a good idea for DC?

Owner/chef Barry Dindyal (pictured above from the 1 year anniversary party) sends the good word. He is inviting all Fusion fans to enjoy free appetizers and cocktails and celebrate the anniversary this Wed. from 6pm-9pm at 4815 Georgia Avenue NW (near Moroni and Bros. Pizza).

Congrats to Barry and all the folks at Fusion!

I’m not gonna lie – when a weekend ends and I post about 4 shootings, a stabbing and a fire that occurs across the city – I can get a bit blue. So I thought you guys might feel the same and would also enjoy a bit of good news. No scratch that, a bit of fan-freaking-tastic I can hardly contain my joy potential news.

Unfortunately I can’t get into details about an exact location but let’s just say somewhere on Georgia Ave (not in a newly constructed building). I got word from a business owner who is looking to open up a new neighborhood bar. And let me say that this is not a novice but a group with a great track record. Frankly I nearly fell off my chair when I read the news. Anyway, the group is familiar with PoPville and knows from time to time we can be a bit opinionated. They also know that many of us love and respect beer and a good neighborhood bar. And they want our opinion – what is the theme of a bar you’d most like to see open up on Georgia Ave?

Initially I was thinking something like a Busboys and Poets or a Tryst type spot. However, I heard that a Beer Garden was also a possibility and I nearly fell off my chair once again. I would still do backflips for a Busboys or a Tryst but I’m gonna make my vote for a Beer Garden. What type of neighborhood bar/restaurant would you most like to see on Georgia Ave?

The Craigslist ad says:

“Come see this modern efficiency available for mid to late December move-in. Apartment is located on the 2nd floor of this 3 floor building. 2 coin-operated washers and dryers located in the basement of the building. Free parking available behind building. Rent includes water and gas. Tenant pays electric. Lease term is for one (1) year. Security deposit is $795 and application fee is $35 per applicant.”

The reader writes:

“Less than $800 seems insane so I’m curious if your readers would have any insight.”

Well, it won’t be luxury living so I actually think this is a fair price for an efficiency at this location. I wouldn’t consider this a super steal – I’m just saying this is normally priced. What do you guys think – $795 sound right for this efficiency?
