King & I Pizza to Become a Proper Pizza Take Out Spot in Petworth?

Back in March ’11 I flippantly said that Seafood & Things located at 847 Upshur St, NW would become the Kind N I serving seafood and things. However, I think we may have the makings of a proper take out pizza place. I peeked my head in and they are doing some major construction. It looks like they have elongated the bar and are completely removing the previous front counter area layout. Obviously we’ll have to taste the pizza but based on the extensiveness of the renovation I’m gonna hold out hope that this may actually be a huge development.

Knock wood, knock wood. Now we just have to see if the get a new awning… More when they open soon.

2nd Petworth Jazz Project This Saturday Night at 7pm

The Petworth Jazz Project kicked off Saturday May 21st, at 6:45pm! Live music was provided by the Donvonte McCoy Quartet. Opening, midway, and closing DJ Sets by The Unknown.

It was a free, outdoor evening of great local jazz, on the lawn at 8th and Taylor, NW, at the Petworth Rec Center and Blankets were provided.

Petworth Jazz Project has details on the rest of the series taking place every 2nd Saturday during the summer.”

DC Reynolds Coming to 3628 Georgia Ave, NW (near Blue Banana and Looking Glass Lounge)

Back in late April I shared the news that a new neighborhood bar would be coming to 3628 Georgia Ave, NW in the old (long vacant) Huron Pharmacy building. A number of people have been asking for an update – so here’s a bit more info that has become available. They’ve applied for a liquor license at the end of May:

New Tavern with food and beverage service for on premise consumption. Entertainment for inside premises and summer garden will include low volume musical performances such as two or three piece member acoustic bands and DJ’s. Seating capacity is 65. Total occupancy load is 65. Summer garden will have an estimated seating for 120 patrons.

They’ve created a Facebook page for the bar to be called DC Reynolds. You can see some photos of the construction progress and what it currently looks like on the inside – here and they describes themselves as:

American pub and grill opening fall 2011 in Park View/Petworth. DC Reynolds was founded by restaurateurs Jeremy Gifford, Jon Calvert, and Justin Gifford after years of experience with a wide range of diverse concepts. DC Reynolds will integrate a full service home cooked menu with a relaxed, comfortable ambiance.

But my favorite post from their Facebook page says:

Met with some farmers and cheese makers this morning at the Bloomingdale Farmers market to talk about sourcing local meat, produce, and cheese. The dragon breath cheese and prosciutto we tried were awesome!

Votes for Capital Bikeshare Expanded Stations Tallied – Georgia and Upshur St, NW Number One!

Back on April 25th we talked about some proposed expanded locations. On a selfish note I asked people to vote for a station at Georgia and Upshur St, NW. Thanks to all who voted! The Upshur St location came in first place by a large margin. You can see the full list below:

With the recent report of DC being the only market out of twenty tracked by Case Shiller to show positive price gains in the first quarter of 2011, it seemed fitting to profile a home that went under contract in four days and sold $20,000. over the list price. In looking at past sales on Grant Circle, it appears that homes directly on the circle rarely come up for sale, adding further scarcity to the equation of a real estate market with already low inventory.
