If you emailed a photo of your pet I promise all photos will be posted, patience please, there are tons (literally hundreds) of pets in PoPville!

Claude-Phillipe

“Claude-Phillipe, in an hermaphroditic frenzy, laid some eggs last week. If any PoPsters would like to experience the dynamism and charisma of the gastropod, we may have some offspring up for adoption in a few weeks.”

Gunny

“This is Gunny, our pit-bull/ black lab/ dachshund puppy. He loves his fetching toy so much that he takes it everywhere, including the RFK farmers market.”

Pete

“Pete should be a PoPville ambassador. After getting lost from his family, a nice PoPville resident picked him up and posted him on the PoP website last August. His owner, Lauren, is very lucky to have found him! He is a total sweetheart (even though he looks like a cartoon in this picture). Vote for Pete!”

More great entries after the jump. (more…)

“Dear PoP,

My neighbor has a beautiful 7yr old pitbull named Adam that needs a home asap! The dog is sweet, passive, friendly, and loves belly rubs and children.

My neighbor agreed to watch the dog after a friend lost her home and had to move to a place that doesn’t accept pets. She doesn’t want to send the dog to the pound, so we’re hoping you can post these pics to see if anyone is interested. (Responsible pet owners only. No dog fighters!)

Her number is 202-641-5141. Interested pet lovers should give her a call this week to set up a time to meet Adam. She lives on New Hampshire, just past Grant Circle.”

In yesterday’s coolest pet in PoPville post a reader asked about adopting a pet. If anyone else is looking…

Goblin

“Goblin on his perch. My little buddy Goblin is a 2 year old French Bulldog who likes to plant himself on the front porch to greet passersby as they stroll down Harvard St. Although he is not quite as famous as Paul the Octopus, he correctly predicted Spain to win the World Cup as well.”

Mo

“This is Mo hanging out in his favorite chair.”

“These are my snow loving guinea pigs, Gideon (left) and Torpedo (right).”

Lots more great entries after the jump. (more…)

Very sad note from a reader:

“I have had her for 8 years and she is my whole world.”

Zeebo

“This is Zeebo. His hobbies include monitoring avian activity in the alley behind our building, eating, and fire safety (there was a fire in my building in ’09 and his weird behavior is what encouraged me to call 911). Definitely the coolest cat in PoPville in my book!”

Lucy

“This is Lucy. It’s possible that she’s half ewok.”

Sawyer

“Don’t let Sawyer’s regal demeanor fool you – he is all about cat nip, catching your feet when you least suspect it, and begging for his favorite treat – potato chips. Sawyer doesn’t take the role of couch potato lightly! He’s enjoyed the good life with us for the past three years, even since we snapped up this adorable bundle of fur from the
NY Ave shelter.”

A little clarification on voting – these are the preliminary rounds. Your comments help me a lot in selecting semifinalists for Dog, Cat, Other and Group. At this round of the selection process it is still a bit arbitrary. Though I may enlist the winners from last year to help out a bit. There will be semifinal voting (in a poll format) for every group then the winners of each category will face off for the ultimate winner. Stay tuned!

Jolene

“This is Jolene. She is a seven year old retired greyhound. LIKES: napping, just kickin’ it, chillin’, leftover rice and being aloof. Dislikes: Squirrels, water deeper than her ankles, temps above 90 and effort.”

Sadie

“This is Sadie, she’s a 7 year old Jack Russell who was rescued this year from the DC Humane Society. She lost her eye to glaucoma, it got infected while she was stray and was too bad to treat. But don’t worry, she’s happy and doesn’t seem to notice, except when she runs into things.”

Fritz

“This is Fritz using the toilet to do his business. He’s my first cat and I hate litter boxes, so the first thing I did was teach him how to use the toilet. He can’t flush by himself, but as long as I don’t have to buy litter or scoop his poop, I don’t care! :)

Oh, the deets: Fritz is 11 months old, I adopted him in February from the humane society in NE and we share a 1bath apartment on the Hill.”

“This is Mimi Mayhem. She rules”

Glenfarclas

Suki

“Suki’s porch mullet – watch dog in the front, lazy dog in the back.”

Bailey

Walton

“Likes: Walks in Meridian Hill Park, peeing where your dog has already peed, and ice cream.
Dislikes: Baths, stickers in his paws, and heat waves.”

Lots more great entries after the jump. (more…)

Porkchop

“She enjoys carrots, squeaking, and terrorizing LEGO farmers.”

Mia

“Mia was found as a stray six-week old puppy alongside a remote highway on an Apache Indian reservation in the Arizona desert, and is most likely a “Dogote” hybrid (Dad was a dog, Mom was a coyote). She is wonderful and sweet, and during her 13 years has lived in Guatemala, Honduras, and three states…making her the most well-traveled Apache Rez dog ever!”

Tula

“She likes it even better when I turn the water on.”

“Dear PoP,

My husband and I ran into a cat walking home from dinner tonight on Vermont Ave., between R and S streets. The cat was overly friendly, and skiddish when the cars drove by, and even jumped up on a guys car that was parked and walked over the hood to pop its head in the open window to get petted. It was starting to thunder and lightening, and the cat seemed scared but didn’t make a move to go anywhere. She just kept staying by us and rubbing our legs and flopping over to be petted between freezing when the thunder hit. It had a black collar on with a bronze little bell. But no name tag/contact. We think it was a little girl, she couldn’t have been more than 3 years. She was very sweet, and it was starting to thunderstorm and it was obvious she was lost. Eventually she sat in the divider in the street and hunkered down with its ears flat scared of the lightening. Now, a cat that is used to being outdoors would not have just stayed in the open during a thunderstorm, would not have been so friendly to everyone, and would have hightailed it home instead of sitting between traffic. So we took her over to the DC Animal Control on New York Avenue, and she is being held there under the name “Prudence.”

She was very sweet, and I really want to make sure her/his owner finds it as soon as possible. They were so full with cats at the animal control that cat carriers were stacked into the hallways.”
