Thanks to PoPville flickr user pablo.raw for uploading these great shots of Rev. Rob Hardies blessing pets at the All Souls Church Unitarian on 16th and Harvard St, NW.

Congrats to Franklin who pulled out a victory over Haywire last week in the Cat Semifinalist round. Franklin will now face off against the other finalists Goblin and Rocky. Voting will be open until Midnight Thurs. and I’ll announce the winner Friday afternoon. The winner will be crowned ‘Coolest Pet in PoPville 2010’ and will be placed on a t-shirt. Good luck to all the finalists!

Franklin

Goblin

“Goblin on his perch. My little buddy Goblin is a 2 year old French Bulldog who likes to plant himself on the front porch to greet passersby as they stroll down Harvard St. Although he is not quite as famous as Paul the Octopus, he correctly predicted Spain to win the World Cup as well.”

Rocky

Thanks to a reader for forwarding this message. The bird was found near Holmead Place in Columbia Heights:

“Hello Neighbors – I was outside today doing a little bit of lawnwork and a cute parakeet flew into our yard. It is clearly domesticated and must belong to someone. Does anybody know of bird owners in our neighborhood?

If so, let us know! We want to make sure this bird finds it home again.”

If this is your bird please email me and I’ll connect you with the reader.

And a quick update from the Cat Semifinalist voting, there is a fierce back and forth competition between Haywire and Franklin. Voting ends 5pm Friday.

“Dear PoP,

A neighbor of mine has fostered a stray cat for the last month and is hoping Popville readers could help her find a home.

Nikita is a beautiful all-white cat with green eyes is available for adoption. She is about two or three years old. She is graceful and affectionate and absolutely loves to be petted. Nikita would probably be happy to be the only cat, as she is shy around other cats. She has been spayed and is up to date on all her shots. Call Dolores Smith at 202-291-6353, email [email protected].

She’s a sweet cat and I’d love to see her find a home.”

We’ve got two finalists already – Rocky and Goblin. Many thanks to Heather Goss for helping select the semifinalists. Heather is the Managing and Arts Editor for DCist.com and runs Ten Miles Square, whose next photo exhibit you can see at the DC State Fair on August 28. She’s still bitter about her space cadet losing the Coolest Cat contest last year, but promises she didn’t take it out on this year’s contestants.

The poll will stay open until Friday at 5pm. The finalists will face each other next week, with the winner getting on a t-shirt as the ‘Coolest Pet in PoPville 2010’. Good luck!

Sorry for the blizzard photo but when I searched the PoPville flickr pool for dog walking shots I was mesmerized by this one.

“Dear PoP,

My partner and I recently added two puppies to our household. We have a rowhouse in Ledroit Park. While we are able to take them out morning and evening, we are looking for a dog walking service for the middle of the day. You may have addressed this before but I couldn’t find it in the archives?

Do your readers have any suggestions or recommendations?”

For those who leave suggestions, I’m also curious, if you are able to say, how much does it cost?

To help select the Dog finalists I enlisted the aid Nichole, former PoP contributor and Fundraising and Outreach Chair of the Board of Directors of Hill Hounds, the official “friends of” group of the soon-to-be-constructed Kingsman Field Dog Park on Capitol Hill. Thanks to all who sent in photos of their dogs. There is a no doubt that they were a super cool bunch this year. Believe me selecting semifinalists was nearly an impossible task (Nichole selected 5 and I selected 5). But at the end of the day, it’s just a fun summer pet contest so let’s remember to vote honestly. If the poll is tampered with your pet will be disqualified. Voting will be open until Friday.

It was a heated competition but Rocky pulled out a solid win with 38% of the vote beating out both Claude-Philippe and Winnie who tied for second place with 21% of the vote each. First time we’ve ever had an exact tie before. But congrats to Rocky on a well earned Finalist berth. Stay tuned for Dog Semi finalists tomorrow.
