Dear PoPville,
My dog was brutally attacked last night at about 7:30 at the corner of New Hampshire Ave NW and Webster St. I hate to say it because I know this breed gets a bad rap, but it was a short, very stocky, light brown pit bull type dog. The owner either was letting the dog drag it’s leash or she did not have a good hold, as when I looked over I saw the dog charging us from a block away on 5th St. Fortunately my dog was able to defend herself, but a puppy or smaller dog would have surely been killed.
In all of the commotion I believe the woman called her dog Roscoe, but I’m not sure of that. There were two women that looked to be in their mid fifties, but I didn’t get a great look at them and they left after we separated the dogs. Please be cautious when walking your dog in this area, and pass along any information you may have about this dog and it’s owner to Animal Control.

I wanted to pass this message along not only in my capacity as PSA 104 Citizen Co-Coordinator, but also as a concerned neighbor. Tonight, my wife and I were walking with our 9-month-old son and our dog. As we rounded the corner on 8th St NE, at 8th and L, we were immediately spotted by an extremely large dog who then charged us from nearly 10 houses away. This and another dog were off leash, sitting on the porch of a house in the middle of the 1100 block of 8th St NE. The dog was white in color, probably 120 pound American Bulldog (it made our St. Bernard mix look small). Fortunately, after kicking, screaming, and (stupidly) pulling the dog off of our dog, we were able to escape the situation. A number of neighbors and passersby also rushed to assist.
It was brought to my attention by responding MPD officers that this is not an isolated incident for this address. The owners of these dogs have been cited multiple times, but unfortunately the dogs are still there (perhaps more unfortunate that the owners are still there).
So, my messages are to 1) avoid this block if you are walking your dogs or children; and 2) if you experience anything remotely like this incident, please call 911, regardless of whether you or your dog were hurt. In this case, it is very important that there are multiple incidents on file in trying to deal with a problem property and irresponsible pet owners.

Dear PoPville,
I live in Shaw and have been biking around town for about two years and haven’t encountered many dog owners who don’t pick up after their dogs, but then this past Saturday I was biking through Georgetown (distinctly remember being at 29th and P) when a lady literally threw her dog’s droppings in the street, narrowly missing me as I passed by. I looked back and was suprised she was tossing it in the street, as she had a plastic bag on her hand. I mean seriously, she had a plastic bag, why couldn’t she bag it up? Just wondering if you’ve ever heard anything like this before?
I once saw a lady throw her dog crap in a sewer but never just randomly in the street. Pretty freaking disgusting.

“Our dog Mr. Big got out of our yard today(around 4) and 14th and Jefferson, if anyone sees him we would be very happy to have him back home. He is very friendly and up to date on all shots but not microchipped and has no tags.”

Friends and Neighbors,
I’m desperately asking you for your help.
On Tuesday night at approx. 10:30pm, my chihuahua Freckles was attacked and killed outside of my house on the 2400 block of Tunlaw Rd, NW. in Glover Park.
She was standing on the ledge in my front yard when she was snatched by another dog walking down the sidewalk with its owner. I struggled with the dog for about 20 seconds, but by the time I was finally able to pull her from his mouth, it was clearly too late. When I ran up and took her inside my house, the owner and dog continued on their walk. He didn’t try to restrain his dog, he didn’t try to help me pry her from his dog’s mouth, and he didn’t even bother to wait around, and he’s yet to come back.
I’m asking you for your help in locating this man and his dog. If anyone recognizes the description of this man and/or dog, I am begging you to please let me know.
Owner: Tall, thin, older (maybe 50s or 60s), light colored hair, white man
Dog: Large, between the size of a weimaraner and a great dane. Long, lanky legs, very tall, with a dark colored body and white head. They were walking southward down Tunlaw Rd, towards Benton St. If anyone happened to see a man and dog who fit that description walking around Glover Park at around 10:30pm on Tuesday, or if you know who they are, or if you see them again, please please let me know. If this dog has already been deemed “dangerous” from a previous attack, then it should have never been out without a muzzle in the first place. If it hasn’t been deemed dangerous, it needs to be. A dog this vicious does not need to be on the streets where it could do this sort of thing again to another animal, or God forbid, child.
I never want anyone to have to go through this. Thank you so much for any and all help. Please reply to the email address above if you have any information. Thank you again.

“FOUND dog — found on Thursday, May 10, on Warder Street in Park View. No collar or tags. Seems a bit scared and frazzled. Call (202) 277-9383.”

“Diesel is a miniature pincher that lives on the corner of 8th and Randolph St, NW. He usually hangs in the front yard and visits with passerbyers. Walking by yesterday the owner said he was taken from the yard sat night around 10pm. That is about all I know though. Oh and the owner has been checking shelters in case he turns up there.”
If you’ve seen the dog please call 202-545-9448.
Thanks to Andy for sending this great video “shot all around Columbia Heights, Adam’s Morgan, 14th St, and U St.”
Incidentally, Wilco is playing Wolf Trap July 17th and 18th – tickets go on sale this Saturday, May 5th.

Dear PoPville,
I just recently toured a newly built apartment community in D.C. On their website, they had previously listed a non-refundable pet deposit for $500 per pet. Within the last week or so, it now says “N/A.” When I asked the leasing the office, they said that the legal team found out that a deposit like that for pets is ILLEGAL in D.C. I’ve been paying a deposit like that ever since I moved here (when moving to a new place/community)! I tried poking around online to find out about this, but no luck. I really don’t see a great reason that they’d “make it up” since they’re losing a good bit of money by not keeping the fee. What’s up?

“Dear PoPville,
Hi! Just found this dog in Bloomingdale. She is hanging out in U street right now.
Please contact Molly (202-302-2013) or Kevin (202-352-2582) if she’s yours.”
