From the National Park Service:

“The National Park Service has completed the Environmental Assessment for the future management of Beach Drive in Rock Creek Park.

To improve recreational opportunities, minimize impacts to natural and historic resources, and address the needs of people who drive and those who use non-motorized transportation, we are proposing to close the upper portion of Beach Drive NW to motorized vehicles from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day every year.
The NPS will hold a public meeting on this proposal on July 18 at 6:30pm. The public is invited to review the Environmental Assessment and share comments and questions through August 11.”

“Dear PoPville,

My family and I saw something in rock creek park (Western Ridge Trail) — it is indescribable. Someone who replied to my post suggested that I turn to you for a possible answer. So many have replied with answers such as: a drone, a huge spider web that trapped debris, sticky bug traps, or… a ufo. Someone even answered that they saw the same thing almost 1.5 years ago! So, i turn to you. I hope you’re able to provide some insight on this “thing.” Curious neighbors need answers!”

Could this be one of the Randomly Found Floating Chandeliers seen around town?

“Dear PoPville,

I noticed recently that in both US Park Service-managed sections of Rock Creek Park (below Calvert street, and below the P St Bridge), the grass was very tall.

I just spoke with a very kind woman at the Park Service and she said that they normally contract that work out, but that the contract was stalled in processing and so they had to (slowly) do the work in-house. (more…)

Good news from the National Park Service:

“The National Park Service is still conducting studies for the environmental assessment for the proposed closure of the northern section of Beach Drive in Rock Creek Park. The closure, slated to end on April 30, 2022, will be extended to September 5, 2022. This extension will ensure that we maintain recreational opportunities this summer, through Labor Day.

The NPS will continue to limit drivers’ access to this section of Beach Drive until a final determination is made. (more…)
