From Mary Cheh:

“Earlier today, I stopped by my neighborhood bakery for what I thought would just be a moment, and my car was stolen. No one was harmed and and MPD is in search of my vehicle.

These things can happen in an instant, they are crimes of opportunity, so I urge everyone to stay alert and take precautions–like double checking that your car is locked, never leave it running, and using anti-theft devices. (more…)

Thanks to Andrew for passing on the glorious news from Calvert Woodley:

“Beginning next Monday, July 6th, our hours will be extended to 11:00 am – 7:00 pm Monday through Saturday, and 11:00 am – 5:00 pm on Sunday. We will continue to offer curbside pickup and delivery.

We plan to follow some new guidelines in an effort to maintain the safety of our customers and staff. Customers will be allowed into the store in smaller groups so as not to exceed 15 customers in the store at one time. We will require customers to wear masks, we will be stepping up our sanitizing efforts, and we will ask everyone to maintain safe distances.”

It’s been a very long month. But with the recent news of Greek Deli and Great Wall (and Brookland’s Finest soon) reopening for take out and now this, well I’ll take it!! Thanks again to Judi for passing on the good word from Calvert Woodley:

CALVERT WOODLEY IS REOPENING MONDAY, MAY 4th!

We hope you are safe and healthy and doing well. We have missed you!

As a thank you for your support we are having a 20% OFF SALE ON ALL WINE through May 9th. Online ordering is available now.

To keep our employees, customers, and community safer, here are the adjustments we’ve made, or are continuing to make, to our normal business operations:

• CW will be open Monday through Saturday, noon to 5:00 pm.

• No customers inside Calvert Woodley, just employees. To ensure physical distancing, we will have less than half the staff we normally have at any given time. (more…)

Brittany asks:

“any idea why there are ambulances and firetrucks (no sirens) outside of the Days Inn in Van Ness literally all hours of day and night? This is the third time today they’ve been there and most days this week have been there multiple times. Is this COVID-19 related?”

Another reader writes: “The Days Inn on Connecticut Ave is apparently housing overflow from homeless shelters in DC. Also, ambulances arrive there maybe once an hour.”

Thanks to Judith for passing on from my beloved Calvert Woodley:

“I am sending out this email to inform you that Calvert Woodley will temporarily close for all business starting this Saturday, April 4th, at 5:00pm.

That means no online orders, no phone calls, no customers in the store, no employees in the store. It also means online ordering has been disabled, effective immediately. I know this will anger some, and I apologize for that, but there’s no way to handle the many orders we currently have and take more new orders, and still close by Saturday at 5:00pm.

The point of this notice is also to let you know you can pick up your pre-existing orders from the last few days. To handle the rush we will be available the next two days from 10:00am – 5:00pm. If you can’t make it in before Saturday night, or don’t want to, we will hold all orders as we normally do, for as long as you’d like.

How long will CW be closed? (more…)
