Last month we learned Signature Barber Shop was coming to the former 4NXC, and long vacant, space on U Street. Now open:
“Signature Cuts and Shaves is a vintage barbershop for men that specializes in scissor cuts and straight razor shaves in the heart of historic U Street.”

Cafe Saint-Ex, Garden District & Matchbox are firing up the grills in a face off on Sunday, August 14th to determine burger bragging rights on upper 14th Street NW at the inaugural 14th Street Burger Battle Royale. 3 Stars Brewing Company will also be on hand to pour some of their ultra fresh local brews at the bar & on the patio.
Tickets are $15 at the door, and include 3 burger tickets and a starter taste of 3 Stars Dissonance. Additional burger tickets are $3 each. In addition to the Dissonance, 3 Stars will be taking over several taps at the bar with Above the Clouds Farmhouse Pale Ale, Dissonance Rye Berliner, and Two to the Dome Double IPA on draft, and Citra Lemon Saison and Ghost White IPA in can. Checking out the coming coming Sugar Shack I noticed that Axum has gone the way of Shashamene. Feels like just yesterday they got all fixed up. Super prime spot these days so we’ll be sure to update when we learn who takes over the lease.
And around the corner there’s finally some progress at the coming Dirty Goose, a “new bar and restaurant serving DC’s LGBT community”. Stay tuned for an opening date.

Check out this footage that clearly captures a young white guy dressed like some kind of hipster (Gilligan hat, puka-shell necklace, trendy t-shirt from Urban Outfitters & white jeans) who somehow gained entry into 2100 block of 15th Street NW’s locked and walled backyard and came up the stairs outside XXXXX’s kitchen and tried his back door knob to enter. He then walks next door and climbs the wall between us and then does who-knows-what as he drifts in the darkness and out of view. XXXXX said he also found the air let out of one of his car tires in his garage, the cap missing, and his car mirror bent inwards. He confirmed that his electric garage door was locked from the outside but his backyard entry door into the garage was unlocked (no need to lock it since it’s inside his walled backyard.) (more…)

“Yes! Organic on 14th & V Streets has been mislabeling ‘certain’ produce as “organic” that is NOT organic and has been charging double the prices.
Unfortunately, I am very sad to tell you that the Yes! Organic market has been using signs to advertise some NON-organic produce as organic. Organic food has a barcode that starts with the number 9. Conventional (non-organic) food has a barcode that starts with the number 4. For example, the fruit in the store was under a sign that says “Organic Watermelon” or “Organic Grapefruit” (see pictures) but I checked the barcodes and the oranges and watermelon all started with the number “4”. I noticed this on Saturday morning and alerted the people working there. I stayed to make sure they changed the signs for the fruit I had found. I did not check all of the fruit – only the watermelon, oranges and papaya. Every orange and every watermelon was not organic. The papaya was organic.
Almost every day, I stop by and pick up “organic” grapefruit for breakfast. I’ve been paying $2.00 for what I thought was “organic” grapefruit for the past six months (when I moved to a building above the store)! I took pictures of the signs and pictures of the barcodes. I was so upset.
The manager was out of town so I gave the employee I spoke with at the store my phone number and asked that the owner call me. The owner called within an hour and was very apologetic. He said this definitely should not have happened and he would be going to the store that day to talk to all the employees. He also said he would talk to the person who purchases produce for the store to make sure they purchase organic grapefruit. I explained that I eat “organic” grapefruit from there almost every day and was very upset that I had been spending $2.00 on what I thought was “organic” grapefruit only to discover it is covered in toxic pesticides and a GMO. At first, the owner said he was “happy to reimburse me for any food I had purchased that I later confirmed wasn’t organic.” Since I can’t travel back in time, he was obviously assuming that there was no way I could prove that a grapefruit I bought in March wasn’t organic. But I flipped it around and said “Great! Just show me the purchase orders for grapefruit for the past 6 months for the store on 14th Street and, if the purchase orders are in fact for organic grapefruit, then no need to reimburse me.” (more…)

I passed Dickson’s Wine Bar earlier today and saw that it was ‘closed for repairs’. Interesting word choice. Perhaps they mean renovation? Lately, it seems things closing for renovation reopen as completely different concepts. Any word on whether Dickson’s will return as Dickson’s?”
Dickson opened up with great fanfare back in 2010. Updates when more is known.
