I love The Saloon. You should too. That I forgot to put them on the list of D.C.’s true great bars pains me immensely. Mea culpa. Other bars I inexcusably left off include – Dew Drop Inn, Ivy & Coney, Tune Inn, Showtime, Nanny’s (I forgot my regular freaking bar), St. Ex and The Pinch.

On Monday we broke the news of the legendary Etete closing at 1942 9th Street, NW just south of U Street but don’t take that as an indication that little Ethiopia is no more. A liquor license just posted at 1909 9th Street, NW down the street says:
“New Tavern offering quick-service Ethiopian foods. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to provide live entertainment. Total Occupancy Load of 125 with seating for 125.”

Around noon yesterday at the intersection of 13th and V Street, NW, a male and female were seated on a bench while I was walking home with two dogs. The woman got off the bench and walked out onto the sidewalk between the dogs, and twice said “gimmie [the dogs]”, and she grabbed their leashes. When I pulled the dogs away, she continued to follow me partway down the block until I was able get away and enter my home through the back. Wanted to warn fellow dog parents.”
