I’m told that the famous designer, Darryl Carter, has purchased 1320 9th Street, NW. A neighbor believes it may be converted into a workshop or showroom. I have no confirmation on this so please consider it scuttlebutt. You can see his Web site here.

The Nine DC is putting together some condos on the second floor and retail on the first floor of the 1300 block of 9th Street, NW (a couple buildings south of 1320 9th Street, NW).

It looks like the Longview Gallery, 1302 9th Street, NW, will be moving. Despite the sign, the gallery is currently still open. I ran into the owner who mentioned they were in the process of securing a new space. I’ll update that info as it becomes available.

And in bodega news it looks like the old Roosevelt Food Shoppe, 1418 12th Street, NW, is getting completely rehabbed. Looking in the window it seemed nearly completed. I’m not sure if it’s going to remain a bodega or turn into something else. As soon as it opens I’ll be sure to post photos of the new spot.

This is insane. It is located at the corner of 10th and W not too far from the 9:30 club. I thought the home on the right looked promising with the stone but then the third floor was inexplicably topped with vinyl. WTF? The one on the left just leaves me without words. Is it possible the one on the right will be fully topped with the same stone? Is it common to have vinyl beneath stone?

Cafe Cozy Corner is located at 1117 10th Street, NW. This spot is very easy to walk by without knowing that’s it there so I’m wondering if it’s been “discovered” by folks. They bill themselves as a sandwich shop, so my two big questions are – how are the sandwiches and how’s the coffee. Is it worth traveling to or more of a neighborhood spot?

This strip is located at 5th and Q Streets, NW (I think). I was struck by the wood up top probably leading out to a roof deck. I kinda dig it. You?

Earlier in the week we looked at this building on the 600 block of S Street, NW. A reader commented:

“God I love this place!!! I snuck into the Wonder Bread Factory two weeks ago. There are thousands of bikes inside its like a chop shop.. its the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

She was kind enough to let me post some photos of the inside:

In an email the reader writes:

“Interesting to note: I called the cops about the bikes …”they had other priorities”. After doing some research I found out they have been there for a while.. with no investigation initiated.”

Pretty wild, yeah?

Chez Hareg is located at 1915 9th Street, NW. From their Web site:

Hareg Messert is an entrepreneur who has a passion for baking. She grew up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where she shaped her vision at the early age of 16 and honed her craft by baking delectable pastries for family and friends. While working under critically acclaimed Chef William, who kept encouraging Hareg, they determined it would be best if she went to culinary school. Nearly a decade after her sweet sixteen she started taking professional classes to fine tune her craft at Stratford University, Culinary School. Hareg was able to develop her fervor and share this with every person who walks into Chez Hareg.

You can see some delicious looking photos here.

They even have vegan cookies.

Any fans out there?
