The Convention Center Community Association (CCCA) has updated plans on the new Carter G Woodson Park:

“But Ms Hazelwood did share a description of the current draft of plans for what might be the sculpture that will be installed at the triangle park on the 1600 block of 9th Street. The park was formerly owned by the National Park Service, but it has been transferred over to the District Department of Parks and Recreation and been renamed in honor of Mr Woodson. We might have someone from DPR come to a future CCCA meeting to discuss this park. Mr Hazelwood did state that there will be appropriate public meetings about the property before any plans are implemented. These images photos we submitted to CFA by DDOT and they were approved in concept.

On October 29, 2009 it was DDOT and District Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that landscaping of Carter G. Woodson Park and creation/installation of public art has been approved to receive between $50k-$579k in grants from DDOT’s Transportation Enhancement Projects in FY2010.”

Windows facing 14th Street

“Dear PoP,

I have been walking by this building for some time and knew that it would probably be turned into condos in the not too distant future. So the work is taking place as we speak but a couple of months ago I saw with much dismay that whoever is doing the conversion installed some really ugly windows facing 14th Street!!!!! how is this possible? the old windows are so cool and that is what I would want if I were going to live in a industrial style loft! Can we get a campaign going to change these butt ugly windows? I took some photos of the windows facing 14th and windows facing T – you can see for yourself that the windows on T are way better!!!!”

Windows facing T Street

That’s a good observation. I do think the windows facing T Street look better but I don’t think the ones facing 14th look terrible. Which do you guys prefer?

“Dear PoP,

Any idea what all the cops were doing yesterday afternoon on 7th b/w P and O in front of the Community Center and then all around the neighboring blocks? I saw them while walking my pup and then later driving to whole foods the car in front of me and as a result my car as well was converged upon by cops who began looking through the car in front of me—trunk, wheel wells, etc. While waving me to pass by.”

Anyone know what happened? I wonder if it was in response to the recent shooting at 7th and N possibly?

The Washington Post’s Tom Sietsema has the scoop:

“The owner of the wine-themed Proof in Penn Quarter has signed a lease for a second restaurant in Logan Circle. Estadio is its name, and Spanish will be its game.”

This is in the spot where the Garden District formerly sold its indoor plants. I’m very much looking forward to following the progress on this place. Stay tuned…

“Dear PoP,
Last night, I heard shots fired near the corner of 8th and N.  Soon after, there were a number of police cars heard throughout the area.  Have you heard anything about this?”

The following info was sent out by MPD:

“At approximately 7:15 PM an adult female was the victim of a shooting at 7th and N St NW. She was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.”

This is the spot that we looked at over the summer. The copper still looks fantastic. At the time I first looked at it the owner said she was holding out for something special in the retail space, possibly a bookstore or art space. Now this is pure scuttlebutt but word on the street is that there may be a deli moving into this space. There was newspaper covering the windows so it seems a build out has begun. I’ll be sure to monitor this spot to see if it becomes a deli or something else.

We looked at this section (1300 Block) of 9th Street, NW in Shaw over the summer and it’s really starting to look good. (More on this strip in a “possibly coming” post at 5pm) No word yet on the retail space on the first floor, I’ll update as that info becomes available.

The Nine is a new small condo projected that was recently completed located at 1316 9th St, NW. Full disclosure: Hipchickindc is involved in this project. There are only four units two of which are accessible through Naylor Alley. That is my favorite part. The carriage house was renovated and extended being rebuilt with the original 1850s brick.

What do you think of the look?

There is also a sweet green roof visible off the balcony in one of the units:

Prices range from $359,900 – $449,900. Hipchickindc provides some inside photos:

From MPD 3D Commander George Kucik:

“Over the weekend there were several instances in which subjects were shot at in the area of 8th and R and S Street, NW. I have already deployed extra officers there but we are also following up on specific leads to find out who the specific targets are and who is targeting them. I cannot get into all of the specifics but will say that these acts are the result two groups who are feuding and targeting each other. We are going to increase our deployment and use additional resources until to get to those involved in the feud.

Despite the police presence yesterday, a subject was shot and suffered minor injuries. Detectives are following up to determine who was responsible for that. We do have some leads to follow and in fact did arrest one subject at 8th and R Street on Sunday night for carrying a pistol.”
