Do you think this is the whole house? Does $2825 sound reasonable for this 2 bed/2 bath?

I just noticed the new awning 1113 V Street, NW. This is the space that used to be Gori Cafe and had a phenomenal happy hour. I spoke to a neighbor who said that there will be new owners at the V Street Cafe and that the inside is getting renovated. I’ll be sure to post when they re-open which is expected in 2-3 weeks.

“Dear PoP,

As part of the process to get active participation in the 14th Street Revitalization Strategy, the Office of Planning has created a survey asking the same questions from the kick-off meeting held at Powell Elementary School on October 20, 2010.  For those who were unable to make it to the meeting, this is an opportunity to still be involved.  Is it possible to post this message so that more residents can have their concerns voiced?  More information about the plan can be found on our website at www.planning.dc.gov.”

And more info here as well.

“Dear PoP,

I live at the corner of 14th and Fairmont in Columbia Heights. I have been having a problem with the stadium lights at Howard (I think these lights are from Howard) University being left on every single night, all night, regardless of whether there is a football game or not. The stadium lights are searing straight into my apartment. (Not to mention are a huge energy waste.) Do you know if any other readers have complained about light pollution from Howard? Has anyone else that lives on Fairmont, Euclid, or Girard Streets been able to read in their living room at midnight with no lamps on? What does one do about light pollution? Should I call the university politely? Please help!”

This is a very interesting question as I’ve been hearing folks mention light pollution lately (I wasn’t too familiar with it). But I passed the stadium recently when there was no game and indeed the lights were on at like 11:30pm (so I doubt a practice was going on). I know some folks will be disturbed with this question arguing “we have bigger fish to fry” but I really do think this is an interesting question.

Number one – why do you think the lights are left on all the time? Safety? Do you think it would be helpful to contact the university? And aside from this specific example – have you noticed other cases of egregious light pollution in other parts of the city?

I think this may be the first 1 bedroom row house I’ve ever seen. Do you think $379,999 sounds reasonable for this 1 bed/2 bath?

“Dear PoP,

Was walking home from a late night at work when I noticed that the Red Toque Cafe at the corner of Rhode Island and 6th NW was open! It looked like Kebabs and other yummy treats, basically what was originally anticipated. I’ve been looking forward to having another good restaurant there, and I can’t wait to check it out.

I hope all your readers enjoy!”

I’ve been getting lots of emails from readers spreading the good news. Sorry for the delay in sharing the news but I was hoping to get a sample. Unfortunately the day I stopped by they were closed. Apparently they are owned by the same people from Red Toque Express located at 1003 Wisconsin Avenue, NW. Anyone ever try that spot out before? You can see the Red Toque Cafe menu here. You’ll find lots of Kabob options ranging from $10-$13. Anyone try them out yet? After they’ve been open for a while I’ll be sure to re-post in a ‘judging restaurants’ post. In the meantime, it’s great to hear they’ve finally opened up!

I know we took a look at the Bread for the City addition over the summer but I saw it in person for the first time myself at 1525 7th St, NW this past weekend and I was blown away. Their Web site says:

“Bread for the City offers five program services to low-income residents of Washington, DC: food and clothing distribution, primary medical care, legal advice and representation, and comprehensive social services. All services are free of cost to eligible DC residents, and are provided under one roof in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.

Thanks to the efforts of hundreds of volunteers and the contributions of thousands in the community, Bread for the City helps more than 10,000 people each month.”

Great building for a great organization.
